I get accused of being a contrarian from time to time (unfairly in my view), but for years people have bemoaned our lack of an elite key forward, and there's a story about one wanting to come to Freo and it makes people grumpy. I don't understand.
Hogan is a gun. Trade Neale to Brisbane, get their first and second round pick, move one of our first round picks to Melbourne, and we still have a full compliment of draft picks. If we want to be clever about it, you could always try to pry a later pick from Melbourne on the basis that Hogan can leave for nothing in a year (and a late-first round compo for Melbourne next year is worse than pick 6).
It would, effectively, be trading Neale for Hogan and a second round pick (and possibly more). Wouldn't you do that in a heartbeat?
If Melbourne wants to play silly buggers hold off for a year and get him as a free agent.
I don't see why this would be a dumb move.
