Look, many if you will have noticed that I have total faith in Steve as our head honcho, chief everything, marketing guru, club spokesperson, laundry controller and now head of list management. The guy is spread a thin as vegemite on toast but I have as much faith in his capacity to deliver as I do with that same Aussie breakfast favourite. So Steve if you read this, don’t take it the wrong way. I know you have a plan (no-one knows what it is, but I’m confident it is in a well worn manila folder in the top drawer of your executive leather topped desk). I also believe you and Dale, when you tell us that things are tracking along beautifully (even though you haven’t provided any evidence of why you think this is the case - we live in a fake news world so fans wouldn’t believe it even if you produced all the metrics you no doubt have in the second drawer down).
Here’s my pitch - please find a decent full time list manager and give it to someone who has a track record, not someone, like you, who is treating it as an add on. As a starter, see if you can find the guy who pulled off the Judd-Kennedy trade (Judd for Kennedy, pick 3 and 20. Kennedy had only kicked 11 goals in 22 games at that stage). Or the guy that saw something in Tubby McGovern.
Weller for pick 2 was a coup (hats off), put a rare occurrence. Successful list management has been the difference between the top flight clubs and the wannabes. Get that right and the rest will follow. It needs more than a nibble on the side of some vegemite toast.
