TOPIC: List Changes

I am alittle confused by what we seem to be doing. Clearly we need fwds with goal sense and X-Factor and potentially a replacement for Neale, but it seems we might get Lobb who is an average tall. A great pair of hands but no goalkicking history and average backup ruck. That sounds alot like Cox, Tabs, Ape to me. And when you add Stranardica, Jones, Mccarthy, Kerstan to the list of 'average' fwds it just seems silly!

A fwd line of Fyfe, Walters, Matera, Tabs, Bennell (lol) and Darcy resting seems about right for this day and age so where do the above players sit! I would like to see freo pickup Marlion Pickett and Shane Mcadams who is an indigenous electric fwd from Claremont playing in SA...for some more flair.

If we lose Neale we HAVE to give pick 5/6 for Kelly and get it done. Send Blakely into the middle and play Conca off a half back flank (he will come cheap).

But alas...A forward line with Lobb, Tabs, Cox...McCarthy???! Is slow, cumbersome and has no goal kicking nous.

Collingwoods talls are Mihocek and Cox...and they are in a prelim. We dont need Lobb!

Well you need at least one tall target in the forward line (eg M.Cox) and preferably two. Tabs was good, then we lost him for several weeks. Darcy was injured. Apeness lasted only a few games. B. Cox is only 19-20, he will be a star (but has to kick straight). Sandi is on his last leg, will he even last the entire season.

So you can trade for or draft whoever you like but if they are perenially injured (Sandi, Ape), NFG (Matera), can't kick straight (Cox, Darcy & Tabs again) or some other deficiency (McCarthy), what can you do?

I'd like to see Richmond win the flag without Riewoldt or the Slime without Kennedy/Darling.

So draft Hogan or Lobb but only if they add 2 goals a game on their own PLUS 2 more as a forward line target.

Fasolo is another B. Matera - no, no, no! Liam Ryan was exactly what we were after - look where he ended up and what he is doing!

Rewind 2016 GF. Tom Boyd stands up playing backup ruckman and kicks 3.2 that day. Boyd No. 1 pick, Apeness pick 17, same draft. Both Vic Metro products. Injuries has curbed the Ape, because I think he can provide what Boyd can. Since the premiership, Boyd hasn’t reached those dizzy heights. In 2016, Franklin was held by our very own Hamling. Begs the question, would you rather develop your own or get a bloke like Franklin or Boyd and hope they’re the saviour. FYI, 2013, U18 AA, Cammac (CHF), Boyd (FF). Just saying.

Lobb may have a great pair of hands but he's an average mark.

Yeah I mean he was only number 2 in the league for contested marks a couple of years ago.

Last year he was 6th. Taberner was 1st. This year Lobb is 16th. He's 12 spots below Majak Daw.

It hardly qualifies him as an ‘average mark’. He’s clearly a very good mark.

As I see it, our list needs about 6 top five picks and a few years of development to be competitive at the top end.

We don't need quick fixes, we need to keep our eye on the long term goal.

That's true, Goodie. But if the metric you're using to justify trading for Lobb is contested marks, then logically we should instead be throwing a much more generous offer at North to get Majak. Which obviously no-one on here would recommend. Or we should be looking for a midfielder because we already have 2017's best contested marker in our forward line.
No doubt Lobb might be handy, but we need to keep it in perspective. Get him if the deal is right, but cheerfully pass if its not.

Yeah I agree, particularly if it somehow means our pick 5 becomes pick 12 or something like that. That would be madness. Still, Lobb would easily be in our best 22, and with him, Taberner and Cox up forward there is trouble for defenders. Walters would also benefit. The other thing it does is allow us to possibly delist Jones and Meek giving freo two more draft picks.

'Fro & Griff no longer with us, Sandi at the cusp. Isn't Meek coming along ok Goodie? We don't want to end up like Eagles with their thin ruck stocks.
Had to grasp the only metric where we seem to be going better than the mob up the road.

I don't think you could play all of Lobb, Tabs and Cox in the same forward line.

They are all slow, contested marking players who aren't much chop at ground level. If you play all three you'll have very little running power, very little ability once the ball hits the ground (which will happen often with the way our tall forwards are outnumbered most of the time, not to mention they would be contesting each other in the air), a large lack of pace on the counter which seems to be our go to style out of the back line and very little running ability in general.

You need a third tall type like McCarthy to lead up and cover kms and stretch the defence. Lobb would replace Taberner or Cox (who is 7 years younger and takes just as many contested marks but kicks more goals and is better on the ground).
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.
