TOPIC: Eagles Robbed

This seems like it should it have been pretty straight forward decision to disqualify North Adelaide.

www.abc.net.au/news/2018-09-17/sanfl-nor...inary-final/10254430

It's believed the extra player was on the oval for about five minutes and during that time, the North Adelaide Roosters kicked a total of eight points.

On Sunday afternoon's game, North Adelaide beat Woodville-West Torrens by five points, 15-10 (100) to 14-11 (95).

They should take off the eight points scored during the 5 minute period , no way any team should be allowed to get away with that .

What’s the penalty for three extra players on the field for the whole of every Derby since 1995?

I have to declare my complete and absolute disappointment with the contents of this thread.

On reading the thread title I was naturally hoping for some substantial pain being inflicted on the dirty birds up the road. Something painful and extensive would've been entirely appropriate but alas it was yet another thread title that promised so much yet delivered so little.

I hate Dockerland some days

Its hard to imagine what the SANFL need to ponder/ contemplate / deliberate upon??
Deadset disqualification is the only answer...theres not to much thinking time required on this one.

They have to ponder because disqualifying North is not following the rules.
The determination of player numbers can only happen after a head count requested of the field umpire by the captain during the game. That didn't happen.
It appears that the bench (manager?) was aware and reported it to match officials, but they should have sent the runner out to get the captain to request a head count.
There is some discretion for an administration as to what they do if a head count found an extra player, but in this case a head count did not happen.

Also happened in the NEAFL Southport 12.4 Sydney 2.4 when umps called teams together for headcount and Southport had extra player. Apparently it then goes to AFL who make decision on whether it's a fine, reversal or score deleted at the time of findings. However in this instance they decided as no score was made during the time extra player was on ground they did nothing. Maybe we should try it!

I was calling for a head count during the North Melbourne, Brisbane and the Hawthorn game this year.

I think a call for a head count should have been made during the Geelong game.

I'm not actually convinced we had 18 players on the ground for most of that game.

This brings back painful memories for me of a colts GF at Claremont Oval a decade ago. After being undefeated all season, we lost the grand final by 2pts in a low scoring affair.

The only problem was, the opposition kicked 2 of their 5 goals in the 10min after half time while having an extra player on the field. I couldn't understand how they had so many free players and after kicking the first goal and finding myself lined up on 2 opposition players at CHB, I immediately counted the number of players on the ground and told the umpire about the problem. He wouldn't perform a head count unless the captain requested it who was on the other side of the ground as they kicked a second goal.

In arguing with the umpire and yelling out at our captain, the opposition bench and runner realised the problem and immediately came out to drag a player off which I understandably yelled at the umpire about. Just as the extra reached the boundary, our captain overheard the commotion and called a head count which was obviously too late and so the umpires resumed the game. The consolation GF medals the club made us and the following season points docked off the opposition meant nothing to me.

It's a stupid rule requiring a head count to be ordered by a captain and a waste of time that will cost a side a game. The rules are outdated as they were in the SANFL and NEAFL where both sides should have had at least that quarter wiped from their score. Extra players on the ground can have huge repercussions and should be an immediate penalty, not the pathetic slaps on the wrist in these recent matches.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Moondingo, they called for a head count, not a player count, so going headless is not a defence.

That's a stupid rule requiring the Captain to ask for a headcount. Jeez, it's not cricket.
