The Real Magicman Membership dilemma? 5 years 7 months ago #1

The Real Magicman
It's pretty expensive going to the footy these days having to pay over the price membership fees and a fair bit each game on chips and booze. I'm looking for a cheaper option in 2019 ... whether that be stay home and watch games on Fox or hang out at the Camfield feeling like you're at the footy. Thoughts?

Don't bother with a membership. Pick and choose your games and therefore how much you're prepared to spend on a day out.

There's several D'landers doing that this year Drub. Call it a membership correction.
Magicman, my offspring taxi themselves around these days, so I started going to live footy this year.. After Subi, the new stadium seating options and experience are a quantum improvement. Book near the time online,
using spare change plus enough for a pie. It's easy, and keeps my financially-competent better half onside. Even Roly football can be enjoyed when you get the trifecta of good value, a decent viewpoint plus a green light from the spouse.

I'd say intermittent fasting with only 1 meal per day. That way you can skip the food stand at the game and since you'll be drinking on an empty stomach, you don't need to drink as much to still get the same buzz.

Yes it is pricey. My whole family goes together and it costs me 4K. I would love to pull out but the other 3 would still want to go so I would still be 3k down and watching it on my own!!

If you can afford it you go to the games, whether you think we’re going to get belted or not.....that’s what makes Freo supporters. When I joined, I joined for life through the good and bad.

It may sound cold and callous, however we live in a capitalist society governed by a supply vs demand financial system, so when the the supply far outweighs the demand, as is the current situation. I cannot understand why anyone would fork out $800+ for a season pass when you can rock up to 10 of our home games for $30. Ie $500 less. The one game you need a membership to guarantee a seat to is the derby. So unless Ross the boss starts treating it with the same desperation to as the supporters do, that’s one game I’ll sit out and spend the $$ on something else.

Jason Membership dilemma? 5 years 7 months ago #10

No dilema at all.

Renew membership, sit wth fellow passionate Dockers supporters and prop up local footy all in one.

As far as I know, all the AFL ‘contributes’ to grass roots footy in WA is the dividend Freo & Weak Coast pay to the WAFC. So the more money Freo make the more they can pay to the WAFC.

That means, more bums on seats.

But if you’ve now become more of an interested observer of Freo rather than a true blue fanatic. Well, to paraphrase a certain Russian dictator - there’ll be less Freo supporters but they’ll be better.

I'm sure that's how it works. But why are the 3/4 time exits commonplace now, despite that?

Because getting out of the joint is a pain in the exit shute.
