He is 190cm, fast and good in the air. He breaks lines reasonably well too and is in the right age bracket.
It would seem to lock in Ed as well.

With Johnno retired, he would be the missing piece in the jigsaw in the back line as the third tall behind Hamling and Pearce and would ensure that Logue, Hughes, Grey, Tucker, Nyhuis, Kersten, Duman et al had to fight it out on merit for the remaining spot.

I was big on Rozee but given he would represent a flight risk back to SA I`d be more than happy with Langdon.

If we could get him it releases Blakely and S Hill further afield which in turn releases quality eventually into the forward line.
I would do this if we can.

The way Ed carries on during games, he's an excitable little fella, in a good way, and I reckon he might be right in Tom's ear for a good portion of this trip. He's either likely to tie up the deal for us or drive Tom so nuts that he runs off to Sydney in frustration. Watch this space.

He strikes me as an Ibbo type, and we have been missing that for a few years now. If we could get him, maybe we could send 6 of our 12 backmen into the forward line. (Then we might not need Hogan and Lobb if we could snare Tom L)

We`d be a premiership side by now if Ibbo hadnt got injured just before the 2013 GF. No way Norman Gunston kicks 4 on Ibbo in that form he was in.
Bring on Tom.

I'm not sure giving up a decent draft pick for a bloke who has played a dozen decent games after 6 seasons and would be our 6th defender (I can't see him being markedly better than a Hughes or Nyhuis who are younger) is a good idea when we're supposed to be rebuilding. It improves us in the short term but hurts us long term.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Well I dont think anyone was suggesting giving up pick 6, not that we`ve got that now anyway. But you could easily give up pick 30 for him. He is clearly better than Hughes, at this stage anyway and Nyhuis is a different player and different size. Nyhuis I would probably play in the starting back 6 anyway on the so called Flyin Ryan types.
Langdon would be a good get but I agree I wouldnt use our first two picks on him.

A decent pick in my estimation is anything above a third rounder and even then, high third round picks can be very good in drafts with depth. That's around the 40/50 mark.

Yes but youve already said this draft doesnt have particular depth, just great quality in the first 5 - 8 picks.
Why would nt you give up pick 30 on an unknown possible to get a known performer who youve had a good look at, including under severe finals pressure?

This draft is about average for depth, there are very handy players till about 40 or so, I just don't think it's as layered as other years with the elite amongst the best we've seen at that level and the next step down all around the same mark. They aren't worse than prior years and a pick in the 30's should allow players of the Blakely/Darcy ability to be available.

It's more down to team preference after the 10th pick with a whole host of players around the same level which is still very good. I'd have Tom Langdon around the 50 mark at best (Ed was pick 54 in a weaker draft that saw Blakely at 34, Mitch McGovern at 43 and Caleb Daniel at 46) and I wouldn't go losing a good quality midfielder or half forward for our 6th defender when we already have those players on the list or can use that pick to grab one who'll play for 10 more years rather than 5.

The only real upside I see is increasing the chances of retaining Ed but he seems pretty happy here anyway and if Tom goes to Sydney, Ed won't be following him.

If the Langdons are planning to go to South Africa to climb Mt Kilimanjaro they might need a new travel agent
