TOPIC: The Rory Story

Dddocker, we should be rejecting these players because we are rebuilding with a young list. Topping up with older average players that don't drastically boost the side and come as a bargain flies in the face of a rebuild. There's no reason to be active at the trade table trying to bring in players, it's not going to magically make us a premiership contender. If we get the right deal like with Wilson then sure, grab them but otherwise, we should be targeting draft picks.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

I think Lobb adds something to our side but the proof will be in the pudding because it looks like he may come over. As for Conca and Langdon they are depth players that are not a walk up start in our best 22. I would pass. Leave Hogan for another year and have a crack at him as a free agent.

Port went the top up route last season and just missed out on finals, they look like losing some talent this year in Polec and potentially Wingard.
They are a more realistic comparison for us to gauge ourselves against rather than a Victorian based side if they undertake a full rebuild.

If we can a number of good players in the door with only 2 picks in the draft I would say overall thats a successful period.. If get GWS's first round pick back and Rory Lobb for our pick 5 and manage to pick a gun at that pick that would be a success and is entirely possible.

So we bring in Lobb, Conca, a 1st round pick and pick 78 (maybe Jason Carter)
with only two picks in the draft.

Thats not too bad really I suppose. You still bring in 2 youngsters.

Lobb had an average year this year but prior to that I thought he was excellent as a ruck/forward for GWS. Haven't checked his age but he's not that old? I still think he's worth a go particularly with Sandi at his absolute tipping point. I think Darcy, Lobb and Tabs are not a bad bunch of talls for the future. I guess we'll wait and see what the list manager has to say.

Pick 5 should be put in the safe until draft day. Short of Coniglio wanting to come home there aren’t any circumstances where we should consider trading it.

Biz, I dont always agree with your take on things at draft time (respect your opinion however) but I reckon you are right on Lobb here.
I have always liked him and wanted to see him in purple..

The pull of the early draft picks we will end up with and the reality that we are in rebuild mode and need to stay the course to get the absolute best result is the right one..esp if we lose Lachie Neale..
If we can get pick 4,5,22 and one other before 77 it may be a far more sustained period of success that we all crave.
At 22 we may be able to get Hill, Clark and even O"Reilly may fall down the order on draft day..
Jason Carter will be rookie listed aswell with a few other gems like Mendat and a mature ager or two.
Then hopefully next year we will have all our draft picks for a change.
Go Freo

There's a decent gap between the top 6/7 talents in the draft to the next grouping. Giving away pick 5 for a lower pick and Lobb (26yo in a few months) who is no better than players already on the list is a loss for the club and a bad deal.

It's dumb to consider trading top draft picks when we're rebuilding unless an incredible deal presents itself. Unfortunately I have little faith in the people employed at the club to make these decisions so we're probably going to get bent over and our future rorted by making horrible deals with no foresight.

That's some good WAFL watching from 5yrs ago with Lobb and Cameron both proving themselves good players since then. I don't doubt that Lobb is a good player either, just not right for us and incredibly detrimental to the club's future when you consider the state of the list and what we should be trying to build. For free I'd take Lobb but that isn't going to happen, he'll cost an arm and a leg and we need those.

Karl Langdon just mentioned on SEN radio in Melbourne that:
Lobb will go to Freo. (Lobb is on $700K at GWS)
Lachie Neale offered 750K / year for 5 years by Lions. Dockers to match it and Neale likely to stay at Freo.
McGovern will definitely go to Carlton
Colin Young (McGovern's manager) to assist Freo in trade period and possibly join the Fremantle Football dept, probably as List manager.

(....it is possible he was just free-wheeling by the end of the interview.) Listen #6 here Crackhead

Colin Young has a few stars in his stable. I’d like to endorse him as our next Recruiting guru. Pretty much how Hine, became Pies recruiting guru after doing his apprenticeship as a player manager. Pies have recruited well since. As for Lobb, 750k a year for someone who has an injury history and occasionally clunks a few. If I was LN, I’d be asking Brissie to up the ante, and I’m gone.

Now I hate bringing this up. Has Jesse Hogan played his last game for Melb. DL’s wish of landing a key forward is there for the taking. I’d throw pick 5 at Melb, and the deal gets done. Forget Lobb. Geez we’ll have too many key forwards and not enough mids. How the hell are we going to score.

But what makes you think Hogan has actually played his last game for Melbourne?

Melb, while at the pointy end of season, has probably put contracts off until the season is dusted. Jesse’s, similar to LN, contract expires end 2019. The question has been asked. Pick 5 to Melb. Are you willing to let Jesse go? He says he loves Melb. It’s cherry ripe time.

If we have offered Neale 750k at 5 years and have missed a chance to get Brisbanes first and second round picks then that's an error by us.

At this point with LN touring Brisbane and the public awkward silence in regards to his contract, I'm more inclined to take the trade and grab draft picks for him.

I'd wait on Hogan too rather than throw a draft pick at Melbourne. Is he a free agent next season (drafted a year before he was eligible for the draft so I'd assume that'd count in his 7 years)? Get him cheap next season if he actually has an intention to return to WA (which I doubt) and keep our first pick, it's not like Hogan coming over for the 2019 season wins us the premiership so why give up on a Lukosius, King or Rankine for one extra year of Hogan?
