I’m Fyfe, now 27, I’m in my second of a 6 yr. contract. At the time I signed up as captain on a new contract, I looked in Roly’s eyes and I believe. By the time I’m 30, I’m a premiership player. I could’ve gone elsewhere, but I see this club as making history. I’m not here to wait. Fyfe says, do we want a premiership by 2020. If so, we move heaven or earth to get a key forward, Hogan, Lobb, Hipwood. I’m here for a good time, not a long time.

You miss a lot of the best big young KPF's there such as Lynch, Daniher, Brown, Cameron and many others, cherry picking older players. Either way I'd probably take most of them before Lobb as a forward.

No one doubts he can take a contested mark either. He effectively takes Taberner's position in the team if he comes over and I'm not convinced he's any better (they are the same age). Taking into account Lobb has probably spent more time in the ruck this year (his HO average was 8 before this season) which allows him more opportunity to pick up possessions and tackles etc, the comparison goes like this:

Taberner - Stat - Lobb
62 GAMES 73
11 AVE DISPOSALS 10.5
4.4 AVE MARKS 3.9
1.5 AVE HO 11.3
2 TACKLES 2.7
62 GOALS 63
32 BEHINDS 37

I just don't see the value in giving up our draft picks and salary cap space. Especially when I believe both Taberner and Apeness if he gets a good run with injury can do the job better. Even 19yo Brennan Cox had just as many contested marks as Lobb (1.7 per game each) while Tabs averaged 2.2. And that's in a side that rarely gets the ball forward!

Lobb is very overated and we don't need him. If he came as a free agent I'd reconsider but since he kept turning his nose at our previous offers and re-signing with GWS, he's tied to them now.

The grass is greener at a club with better results. Don't be fooled.

Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.

There is no cherry-picking.
Just giving context that Lobb is not a spud. Neither is Taberner; we were a far worse team with Taberner out of the side.

Just felt that people did not understand that Lobb is near the top of a very short list of quality tall marking forwards that will still be good for another 4 years.

Of your list that excluded a lot of the best KPF's, I'd only have Lobb above Bruce and McCartin and that's probably being unkind to McCartin who has suffered a lot of head knocks in his young career.

I didn't say Lobb was rubbish either although he'd be towards the end of a long list of KPF's. He's not worth whatever we're about to pay for him and it will set our rebuild back.

We would have liked Lobb, for sure in 2018, with Sandilands, Taberner, Darcy and Apeness all out injured for extended periods of time. Will some of these be missing in 2019? Probably.
So far the negativity to all possible trades has been universal here:
Langdon T - NO
Conca - NO
Lobb - NO
Have I missed any NO's?
Oh, Kelly - YES? Sorry he prefers WCE and that's where he'll be. If Lycett finishes at PA (as he will) then WCE will bid for Lobb and we will be crying in our beer in 2019 as we are about Yeo.

We are rebuilding, you don't jeopardise that strategy unless an incredible opportunity presents itself. If you go half hearted at it, you end up sitting mid table and never getting back into contention.

We put an axe through many players who would have been handy to hang onto over the past few years in the name of rebuilding but have then turned around and replaced them with other mid tier, middle aged players rather than go to the top end of the draft. That's not rebuilding, it's just buying time and sending the club further down the gutter.

None of the suggested trade targets are for game changers or good value swaps so why would you do them? We are expected to bottom out and RL apparently has a 5 year safety net to grab and develop kids. Commit to it.

We need a proper power forward to add to Tabs. I'm not convinced that Lobb will fit that bill.

I'm also more than a little concerned that a team with a pretty poor record of dealing with injuries is suddenly interested in taking on two injury prone players. I'm not saying this is a recipe for disaster or anything but it seems that we don't really learn from previous efforts.

I mean look how many games Bennell has played for us. Morabito worked out well as did Pearce A etc.

I'd rather we invested heavily in players that can walk past our medicos without something falling off. Maybe we should fix our injury management before buying more injury prone players.

I think Conca makes sense because we don't have to give up anything except some money. Draft picks are valuable things especially when we will be able to draft a gun at our current pick. If we can go back in the draft order and still get a gun like it would be worth it and its certainly possible to get a good player around pick 15. Then we get a young gun or another player that is highly rated and Rory Lobb for our pick 5. It could be worth it but I reckon we might be better off just drafting Izac Rankine, JL or a King bro if they are available.

It always depends on what you have to give up.

I'll admit, I've always rated Lobb.
But I know Biz is right (and should admit it).

You aren't wrong though Polly, he is a good player but not a good fit for us with where we're at.

Hope to catch up for a beer tomorrow night Polly as per the DuFFLe thread and we can sort out who Freo should pick up in the off season!

Two other players come to mind to which there has been a negative response here Mitch McGovern and Goddard. Who then are we interested in and are they realistically available for Freo? That's the question. We can constantly reject players and in the end finish with nothing.
I think Lobb, an good experienced player (ruck/forward) with finals experience, is worth pursuing because Sandi is on his last legs (literally!) and I have no confidence in Apeness injury wise and form wise.

Ít could depend on which Goddard you're talking about as there are 2 available. Brendon is 33yo, 193cm, 94kg and fit whilst Hugh is 22yo, 196cm, 95kg and big fitness concerns. Both have been delisted so would cost us nothing as delisted free agents and both can play either end of the ground plus midfield. Unfortunately both come with baggage and represent a risk if recruited especially if we end up carrying Harley for another season.

Do you reckon Brennan Cox goes back to defence if we get Lobb?

DDD, why do we have to keep getting any players at all if they are not going to be advantageous to our rebuild? Particularly if it means giving up the meagre draft picks we already have.

Lobb will cost plenty and I don't think he's worth it. This is supposed to be the best draft in years so to me it seems that we should go with some good youngsters and use our very high pick numbers on proven WAFL, etc players. Guys like Bolton and Pickett are the same age as Conca and Lobb and will cost us way less in money and picks.

We've already been told we're not expected to be in contention again next year so if we are rebuilding then do it properly.

The only players I would be happy with are proven players like Hogan or Kelly that would imo add something to our side. Conca and Lobb i don't think are what we need just by looking at their stats.

Don't get players just for the sake of getting them. It hasn't worked with Matera, Kersten and McCarthy. Quality or nothing for me.
