Ive argued for a while now that for better or worse, Roly is not going any where due to to the cost of termination.
Ive also stated Roly has quite a few good points as coach, not the least his care of player welfare and his excellent defensive organisation.
Equally obvious is his deficiencies, mostly tactically involving the game plan, most of which have been dissected ad nauseum here at DL and which are blaringly obvious if youve ever watched a Hawks game for example, as comparison.
Heres the thing, it wouldnt take much tweaking for Roscos game plan to come into the current century. A good assistant coach or anybody above him in the hierarchy who would dare to constructively critique the man and dare stand up to the inevitable death glare and condescending initial retort, might actually gain Rolys respect and who knows he may even listen. If his share portfolio depended on it, he may be all ears. There is nothing in his game plan that couldnt be fixed with one good pre season.
I dont know the man. What I have observed though is that he appears so prickly to criticism Ive never seen any of the guys in the coaches box give him feedback. Is that guy Prior still around. Ive never seen him ever speak.
Bell is allegedly cantankerous, opinionated and forthright. I dont see him backing down. Of course it would be better to have a 6 week review, a wide ranging Gobal hunt, an extensive exhaustive interview process narrowing down the best 30 candidates to a small cabal of elites, one of whom is lucky enough to be given the position. But this is the Dockers. Just take the guy who is sitting next to Bond. On this occasion though, it just may work.
