TOPIC: Superdraft

A lot of hype around the 2018 draft being a 'Superdraft'. Given that you have to give something to get something, interested to hear what people would give and hope to expect for trades?

Obviously there's interest in Neale and Cerra. Each is worth both a 1st and 2nd round pick to me, is that realistic?
Would anyone trade them if it landed the picks to end up with five Elite 200 gamers?

My dream scenario:
If Carlton were keen on Cerra we would end up with picks 1,4,five (ours) 19,23
1 - Lukosius
4 - M.KIng
5 - B.King
19 - Mid that would go top 5 in any other draft
23 - Small fwd that would go top 10 in any other draft

There is a chance if that treasonous little dwarf splits the scene that we have the two King Boys and Starcevich running around for us next year.

We wouldn't draft three KPF's in the first 5 picks but you'd be silly not to pick up Lukosius at 1. In this scenario where we have Brisbane's pick and ours to follow Carlton's, I'd ideally like to pick up a King brother and Rankine with Lukosius but it'd depend very much on GC ahead of us. I can't see them not grabbing both King's with Lynch and potentially May out the door but on the other hand it'd be hard for them to pass up Walsh. The King's at CHF/B could be a dynasty type thing at the Suns and with them together, you'd have to back yourself to retain them.

In reality, Carlton don't need the first pick and would probably be better served with a proven talented mid like Cerra to aid Cripps, SPS, Dow and Fisher. They have some very talented young KPF's showing plenty in Curnow and Mckay so there's no need to maintain a top 5 pick where the best talent are KPF's. Cerra would fit their age range better too with a year extra in the system. I also can't understand them chasing McGovern given their tall stocks but I'd hope they don't sacrifice that No1 pick for him.

I still believe we're better off holding Cerra if we can get pen to paper but if he's going to go, now is the time while Carlton hold the number 1 pick and Lukosius is there for the taking.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

We’re only about six or seven more superdrafts in a row before the term starts to lose all meaning.

Agree with most of what you said Bizkit except I don't know why you wouldn't draft three elite KPP when they always in limited supply, win games for you off their own boot and you always extract value from them in any trade.

The other thing is there is no guarantee GC will have two picks before us is there. I thought any priority pick would be more like end of first round (lest there be howls of derision from every other club)?

Gillon has publicly stated that the GC compo pick for Lynch will fall straight after their first round pick.

Agree Mont.

Stockpile them like the Gnats and trade them off when required.

The AFL are looking at every way to help the Suns with free agency ruining the large amount of talent at the club. The only way to combat the outflow of quality players leaving without placing tighter restrictions on those Suns players is to keep funneling more talent their way which means a first round pick. Lynch is worth that pick in any case.

I like Cox up forward and Pearce/Hamling down back so I think two KPF's is more than enough tall talent in addition to Dixon and possibly Apeness if he gets a good injury run. We do need to replace midfield talent if we lose Neale and Cerra so Rankine or Walsh would be great gets for us.

Cheers Flag I wasn't aware of that. In that case GC would be stupid not to get the King bros.

I wouldn’t be happy with pick 3 for Lynch if u was GC. Match the offer and force a trade. A first round pick and 2 experienced players is what they should be after. Helps us as well.e

Agreed Buzza - don’t rule out Hawthorn’s first, Jarryd Roughead and one other Hawk getting the deal done.

Was it free agency that ruined Gold Coast?
