TOPIC: Cerra

For all those feeling a bit nervous about our young gun, have a read of this:

www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/2018-08-30/c...CL_2465514_110715460

Seems very happy, enjoying his footy and, dare I say it, the coaching methods of RL. Worth noting that he is pretty tight with APearce, Dixon & Brayshaw - all of whom are interstaters and signed to at least 2020.

I expect he will re-sign over the off-season and we'll be seeing him in purple for some time to come.

I know a few on here would love nothing more than to see Cerra leave to confirm their fundamentalist views on what's wrong with RL and the Freo footy club in general - but you just might have to move onto another 'look, there's a bear' issue to convince the rest of us sycophants of your infinite wisdom and foresight (sarcastica font engaged) .

I reckon Cerra was cooked from about two-thirds into the season, and it's interesting that he seemed to confirm that a bit. Losses like the one against Geelong tend to happen when the playing group is physically shot, or have given up on the coach. My sense from the comments of those around the club is that it's more likely the former.

It's also worth noting from that snippet what a champ Alex Pearce seems to be. We've got a good one there.

Very pleasing news. Jason, I've agreed and disagreed with you on some points, but possibly in these tense times that last paragraph was an overeaction.
I can't think of anyone that has said they wanted Cerra to leave. On the contrary, he is held out as our star of the future, so hopefully his commitment is a sign of more good things to come.
As has been mentioned, we don't lose a lot of players due to that go home factor.

Totally an over reaction to people who want RL moved on and Rosich and co also.
I simply don't believe RL is the man to take us forward.
People are so immature when it comes to these sort of things.
I don't dislike the man and wish him no ill will and in no way do I want him to fail.
I would prefer for him to succeed because I HATE being a laughing stock and I HATE every other club , nothing would give me more pleasure than a premiership under RL.
I just don't believe he can do it. It is that simple!
My company are major sponsors and we spend a lot of money at auctions etc so no wavering in support also.
At least we put our money where our support is!!!

Well for some-one who has accused me of cherry picking quotes and articles, Jason, you are going for some pretty big handfuls of fruit yourself.

Every bit of news about Freo these days seems to be an "ode to Lyon and his greatness" I am starting to think that the worst, CH7 and PR can see if we keep Lyon, they will be able to kick us in the guts for a fair bit longer.

Yeah, right, Jason.

Seems someone is looking for reasons to attack those who don't swallow everything the prez barfs out.

All I've seen from everybody is hope that Cerra signs up again. In fact, across the board people on here have rated it a priority.

You might dare say he enjoys the coaching methods of RL whereas I would say, you are basing that on not much at all.

Whether he does or doesn't, I hope he signs up again...and again...and again but theres no need to take aim at those you disagree with by inventing stuff like that

Watching Cerra reminded me of my perceived ( what I see from a distance at a game or on screen) differences between Harvey and Roly.
Harvey was the vulnerable self conscious risk taker. A Hard man.
Roly is also self conscious but he might be the smartest man in the room. Thats unlikely but he is in charge.

It will take more than a few good wins for the fundametalists to happily change their opinions, Jason.

What will it take the sycophants to see what is front of them?

I think Cerra needs to go home for a holiday. Chat with his old man over a few beers and then listen taking notes as his old man implores him to make a good crack at forging his career at Freo and becoming one of their greats.

From what I've heard it's his old man who wants him to head back east.

Maybe he should have beers with someone else.

Really, really hope Cerra stays and becomes a star for us. But if he doesn't...there will be a target on his back.

I really hope this bloke stays. We are very much in a place when Pav bought into being the one to build a club around him and committed. I feel Fyfe started this when he accepted his Brownlow but this message seems to have got lost recently in building his brand.
I don’t know what sort of bloke Cerra is but his importance to the club right now is critical as a message that the club is united and building together. A kid like him can really show leadership and drag others with him.
If this isn’t how things are occurring to him then I personally hold no grudges towards him. It would be more indicative of chinks in our organisation.
Brisbane were bleeding a couple of years ago and are currently retaining their young talent. They seem to have achieved buy in.

I think you'll find we are the new Brisbane. And will be for a couple of seasons. Straight after chatting with Rosich (our list manager ) Neale was on a plane.

Here’s a list off the top of my head of Freo players who were ‘definitely’ leaving Freo at the end of a contract or via a trade:

Pav (multiple times)
Mundy (multiple time)
Fyfe (off to St Kilda - 2017)
Ballas
Sandi

If I could be bothered researching I’m sure I’d find more.

But hey, let’s all jump at shadows.

I’ll believe Neale and Cerra are gone when they come out and do a ‘Weller’.
