I've been a member since inception even though for the last 15 years I have been overseas without any real chance of getting to see the team live.

I am no longer disgruntled more dismayed and disillusioned, I have come too the realization that within the broad AFL world we are the least relevant team in the competition!! We aren't in crisis like suns, Saints are in melt down, Brisbane and Carlton are young and reinventing themselves, Adelaide- WTF camp and Port shock they didn't make it - Top 8--- playing in September
Freo oh really, argh yes there the team I forgot when trying to list the 18 teams. Outside our small community nobody really cares. They like us, a bit like the eccentric lady at the corner of the street.

The afl membership numbers are a joke, artificially inflated by league headquarters so they can spruik how popular the code is to news agencies. Hawthorn have about 2 million members yet get 35000 people to some games.

RM. we had a seated membership waiting list of zero vs WC 9,000 - but you want to claim we should have been able to attract at least the same number of new members as them?? I’m asssuming you’d argue we would have if we had a different coach, played more ‘attractive’ footy, kept the anchor blah blah blah.

Don't assume it, take it for gospel fact that I argue that if we had a different coach, played more attractive footy, kept our jumper and home, we would have more members. The waiting list has nothing to do with the number of seats available. The membership numbers are new members numbers. We had 6000 new members, they had 14,000. It is pretty simple maths. The 9000 on the waiting list were members who were waiting for seats, not new members as I understand it.

I look back at 2006 and 2013 as our high points. And in my mind, 2006 was the more exciting. Maybe it was Josh Carr monstering the slime, but sadly I think the real reason is just that I was younger. I'm trying to avoid becoming a grumpy old bugger, but I can see why many of us get grumpier as we get older.
I'll be back next year, and maybe I'll make a personal visit to the club to complain about the gameday policy of constant noise. I'm hoping to start to fall in love with our team again, with the new core players in Fyfe, Neale, Cerra, Brayshaw, Wilson, Darcy, Pearce, Cox, Tabs, Langdon, Hill x 2, etc. I'm hoping some of our young guys really come on.
I've had enough of losing. I've had enough of knowing at week 3 of the season that I don't have to worry about September. I've had enough whinging on DL.
Just give me a bunch of good blokes playing good footie and winning more often than losing, and I'll be gruntled again.

I think what got my goat the most is not that we went bad, although I'm of the view that we didn't need to sink as low as we have. All clubs have bad trots but this was pretty much self inflicted.

It came after other self inflicted crap that was foisted on us member and supporters with removing symbols of the club that many of identified with very strongly and this was all done in the name of 'sustained success'. Well in my view, limited success and hardly sustained.

I had a message passed to me from one of those responsible and I was told that 'you members think you are important but you're not. We run the club and we'll decide what happens'

That attitude after having Rick Hart treat members like mates and the respect shown to us by both the Prez, Coach and the club as a whole marked a harshly defined point in time where the club burned away 20 years of standing together.

Well, they burned me and others and I'm happy to hoist them on their own petards and broken promises.

Yeah 2006 was a high point and I'm expecting more high points when the club has moved on from the 'sustained success'. Yep some of this is personal but I'll still be 100% Freo long after thse clowns are a bad memory.

I said that to a superior once in the army. It didn't go down well but I was still there well after they'd been moved on and this is just the same.

Not quite all, I agree with most comments so far but not much of Jason's who seems to assume those not in agreement with him don't attend games and are Roly bashers etc whereas I find Jason rather hypocritical himself. Because he is a Roly supporter he has just rubbished virtually all our past including HArvs, and stating we accept mediocrity which he feels has been our past. I find it bizarre that just because we are going in a different direction (whatever that is) we suddenly rubbish all that went before it.

Neesham was before his time but we won between 6 to 8 games per season and were exciting to watch.. Although I find it difficult to find much with Drum he did get us our first Derby win. Connolly got us back on track and to finals and even Rosich stated at a members meeting, that he was happy with HArvs but just wanted a more experienced coach which was why he said they kept HArvs in the dark in case it all fell through with Lyon. At a dinner held for HArvs he stressed to us all to keep supporting our players no matter what we felt as we had a great bunch coming through.

I have been a member for 24yrs but can't help wondering if it's all these newbies who leave early when we aren't playing well and also boo our past players, eg Mayne, things I've never done no matter how disillusioned I am with our current situation. I like others don't care who gets us there but just can't see things changing in the near future.
