If Lachie got overlooked for an AA spot a few years ago when he broke the AFL record for number of possessions (?), then its not that surprising he got skipped this time either.

We’re he plying his trade at a Melbourne (or even SA club) he’d have 2 AA’s already. Like most things within the AFL - Freo gets the rough end of the pineapple.

And as far as Gaff goes, he wasn’t Brownlow favourite for nothing prior to his dog act, so not that surprising he got picked when he only missed 3 games - one less than Buddy. Obviously it’s not a ‘fairest & best’ AA team they pick - but it would be prob the first time someone got an 8 week suspension then made the AA team.

Notwithstanding his Brownlow standing, it's still quite depressing to witness the footy industry's continuing, shameful rehabilitation of the "good bloke" Gaff. Coward punching, record MRO ban and AA in one season.... Amazing, isn't it, how blinkered and inward looking the AFL can be, when it suits them.

I reckon the team is about right except for Dangerfield and Martin who got in on reputation more than on field deeds this season. Neale should be in for one of them and there would be a half dozen other mids in the comp who deserve the other spot.

The AA captaincy is purely symbolic. It's given to a player who is in the superstar player category not necessarily in the leadership category - remember McLeod. Hurn was the obvious choice if real leadership qualities are considered.
The AA team is fantasy. If it was real Gaff could not (would not) have been selected.
