Fremantle Dockers president Dale Alcock: ‘We are on track ( because )

Ross Lyon said the club was not about to do a “U-turn” off the back of one bad loss like the 133-point hiding (TWENTY THREE unanswered goals the most in AFL history )

taken from Geelong in round 22.and then in nearly the same breath , this

“But the guys ... had something to play for with Michael and Lee and Danyle retiring and it was pretty clear that they regrouped and showed a lot.”

So he dismissed the 23 goal flogging as nothing , then it was pretty clear that they regrouped and showed a lot by losing the following week .

It is pretty big balls-up from Alcock .

Words to describe the FDFC president. Uninspiring. Disengaged. Conventional.

Boy oh boy this messageboard is getting hard to read. I've been reading and contributing for something like 15 years (I think) and where it used to be a fun place to spend an hour and read all the humourous, witty and even inciteful postings, now it is just an ongoing dirge of how terrible everything at Freo is. I could go into a defense of how a Board works and what a Chairman/Presidents role is (based on my long term membership of the AICD and many years on Boards) but I would just end up me being labelled a Roly lover (which I'm not) and immediately dismissed. There would be no point as those that are in this very negative frame of mind are completely incapable of accepting any post which is not supportive of their views.
I know things are crap and we have some blokes working for us who are not up to scratch but is there any chance all you negative-nellies could get the s**t off your livers and get back to bagging everything blue 'n' yella?

Well instead of bagging people and offering nothing, why don't you tell people where they are getting it wrong.

If people are unimpressed by poor performance, why don't you justify your criticism and explain why they should be. Oh and its a bit rich to tackle everything blue and yella when they are constantly out-performing us. Do you remember when we used to win derbies? I do but its been a very long time hasn't it?

"I know things are crap and we have some blokes working for us who are not up to scratch"

I can understand your post but I think that sentence above captures the frustration for a lot of people here. Yes, things are crap and yes there are people working there who are not up to scratch, but what do they do about it.....nothing, except have another in house review which says everything is going along just fine, which even you DS have said is not the case.

I don't think I've ever been more upset at my club than I am now, and unfortunately this is the only real format many supporters have to air their frustration, or anger from some.

You guys are looking at this all wrong. Dale has told us to take 2019 off as supporters and come back in 2020. Looks like we got an early Christmas present courtesy of our saved membership fees!

Actually, when something nice happens we usually hear how it would have been nicer if Roly wasn't coach...

Well, that's not a bad idea, B1R1, if all Freo members said "No, we don't accept this crap" it would send a pretty clear message to Rosich, Alcock and Lyon (and Bond). Shane could start a Freo Footy Supporters membership here on Dockerland, to give us another venue to show our support of Freo as opposed to our non support of the Board and Coaching Box.

If Alcock really believes people are unhappy based on one seriously bad flogging, he's not been around long enough to see that's just a symptom, not the cause.

I think it's just a "nothing to see here" attempt, for those simple minded enough to take anything the club says, at face value.

Hang in there DS. Once we are good again, or bad enough that Lyon is booted, most people can go back to complaining about the umpiring, MRP, fixturing, media, West Coast and AFL admin again.

As an aside, I'm curious to see what happens if we appoint a new coach and don't improve. Hopefully it never happens (at least the second part), but it will fascinating to see whether those who most vociferously criticise Lyon hold the new coach to the same standard, or whether years of calling for Lyon's head mean that the old regime will continue to cop most of the blame years into the future.

I'll be hanging around. I'm getting quite used to sitting at my computer mumbling "Oh, for f***s sake, give it a rest".

I think it would be, with a new coach comes new hope Morgan. Whether that eventuates you don't know of course. There are plenty of instances of both.

A lot here are ready for fresh ideas and new game plans, others will stay the course no matter what Roly says or does.

Change is exciting but it comes with risks. One things for sure, we surely can't be expected to keep swallowing what we're getting now. Well I can't, but obviously others can.

Morgan,

any new coach would have to be given at least 2 years to show improvement. Roly has had that and more but I would also expect that improvement to be obvious faster than that.

However, you ignore that most of the posters on here have also made it clear that the coach is not the sole source of our woes. The shambolic nature of the 'rebuild' and lack of any coherent plan is also a major factor. We don't seem to focusing on drafting young players to aid the rebuild, we've swapped mature players for other mature players and we don't seem to be targeting particular players or particular skills. We grab and player 'that wants to come home', whether they're a good or not.

The coach is responsible for the on-field stuff and I would include skills training and match day tactics (game plan). He's not responsible for our fitness woes (soft tissue injuries) unless his game plan is responsible for a fitness regime that leads to so many soft tissue injuries. He's not responsible for our medicos not getting blokes on the park and he's not responsible for our trading, unless he's telling the list managers who he wants.

I don't understand why the Ass Coaches aren't being held accountable as well. Its not a one way street, at least it wouldn't be in a well run club.
