Mcgovern? What has he done? A couple of nice marks and probably a little cry at the crows' pre-season rev up camp. No thanks. And Martin? I thought we wanted big mids who can play everywhere? No way. Keep pick 5 at all costs.

If Clarko has told Roughead to explore future options then Tom Lynch is almost guaranteed to be at the Hawks next season.

Hawks freeing up salary cap and about to back up a truck of cash to Lynch's front door.

A list management process that doesn't involve spending years at the bottom and turning over 50% of your playing roster in 3 years? Surely they can't be serious.

Maybe somebody should get Alcock to look at Hawthorn and see what 'real' sustained success looks like. Here's a hint for you, Dale, what you're doing at Freo just isn't how it should be done.

For a start Alcock could get us founded in 1906, be in Melbourne, and have a string of premierships prior to 1995. Trying to develop an established club is a slow road to success, mate.

So, if we want to divert criticism, we make nonsense statements do we?

We don't need to move to Melbourne or have a string of premierships to be a well run club. We just need to have people with some idea of what they are doing

McGovern will not help us at all. To pay him big bucks and a likely high cost at the trade table considering he stupidly re-signed last year, means he should be off limits.

However I have no doubt the blokes running our club are in a mad rush to paper over the cracks in our rebuild and get in a good news story for next season. Throwing away our cash reserves at a less than middle tier player flies in the face of RL's whole 'hard to attract players' comments on the weekend where he talks about top quality talent to top up a rebuild.

McGovern will be 24 which is effectively 6 years into your career and at your peak. He's kicked 35 goals from 25 games in the last 2 seasons while playing on small defenders behind Walker, Jenkins and Lynch in an attacking line up that's kicked plenty of goals. You could even add Betts into that as a forward who attracts a better quality defender. He really isn't that good although he has taken a good mark on occasion.

He is no saviour to our forward woes at 191cm and playing on an actual tall, I can't see him having much impact. If he came over for nothing as a free agent or delisted then I'd give him a shot as depth but that'd also depend on whether we were challenging or needing to give kids a good run at it to develop (we need to do the latter).

For reference, McCarthy is almost a year younger, 2cm taller and has kicked 44 goals from his last 36 games in the past 2 seasons coming back from a year off and playing on the oppositions best key defender for the majority of that in a low scoring defensive side.

Very similar stats for a younger player with more problems attracting the footy and look at how he has been crucified as not good enough. You couldn't possibly bank on McGovern being a better player let alone pay anything for him to replace McCarthy (which is effectively what he would do) when we need our draft picks to rebuild.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

It might be a slow road to success for us, but it hasn't stopped WC, Adelaide and Port from winning premierships and being in contention on a far more consistent basis than we are.

We saw what happened to Des Headland when he came to Freo, not his fault but plenty wanted to blame him, not the mouths who talked him up to be more than he was, McCarthy, same scenario, McGovern, will be same scenario, with the possible exception that he will attract the slowest opposition defender. Unless Jones plays. The eagles McGovern would be a better buy as a forward, because he is used to playing across the defensive 50.

If you take the view that Cox is actually a backman, then a forward line of Tabs, CamMac, McGovern as the tall/mid-sized forwards would have a bit of bounce to it. That said, we got Hamling for (roughly) pick 35. I think Hamling is a much better player than M McGovern, so anything over that would be wasteful in my view.

I'd pass.

We could definitely find a spot for Mitch in the forward line. I reckon we should offer both of our first-round picks in 2034 & 2035 to get the deal done.
