I think it was Jason who was asking about this. If you look at the top ten below(all midfielders of course) you could eliminate Horsley, Mitchell, Jones, Pearce, Kitchin and Hampson I guess as they are all 28 or older.

I don't know much about other clubs but Bolton reminds me of Barlow. Just keeps getting the ball even if tagged, rarely beaten or injured, has decent skills, and kicks a few goals. Kicked the winning goal after the siren on Sat. from 50m out. Sandover medallist, 2x Simpson medalist and F&B winner. He like others her have been on an AFL list earlier in their careers.
Hardisty from Claremont was on Hawthorn's list and apparently has broken the WAFL tackle count record this year.
The only other player I really have seen a little bit that looks good is Pickett from SF, oh and also McAdam who is now playing in the SANFL and being talked up as a chance.
Polly may know some Black Ducks, anyone else?

You can also check marks and goals on that site but nothing too exciting there.

With Subiaco's domination there must be some talent in that side.

Corey Gault has been a standout for the last two years at Swan Districts.
He would be a better big man option IMO than Ape & Jones with Meek in the TBA basket....Gault can ruck, run and take a big grab.
He was on the pies list for a few years and is now fully developed and well worth a second chance.
Tobe Watson has had a fantastic two years and is off to the State Combine. He is rather slight but has many other AFL standard attributes and will be on a rookie list next year. Think Nathan Broad type.
Alex Howard is the real one that needs to be given an opportunity.
I went to the club on Thursday for Chase the Ace and spoke to a few of the recruiting guys there.
They mentioned he was all set to be drafted a few years ago and was asked (club not mentioned) to keep a low profile. He did as requested but they didnt live up to their end of the bargain and he missed out.
He is rarely beaten in a one on one and is fantastic in the air.
Lots of good colts coming through with the slime able to grab Charlie Camerons brother under next gen unfortunately..

CA - The scary thing about Subi is there is not too many stand outs - Its a credit to Schofields game plan and buy in from all players.
Kitchin is the pick of them - I know he is 28 but why not??

Have to agree with you on Gault, Demo. I'm not sure what they saw in Jones except that he's big and sort of a Sandi clone.
One young mature ager from Claremont who has had a very good year is Eastland (see below). He's not big enough to be a ruckman at AFL level but because of his great leap he's competing and beating much bigger players at WAFL level. He spent his junior years as a key forward/ruckman and sometimes backman. Has been picked to go to state combine I think.

Like demo I have a swans bias as well and put Gault’s name forward at the end of last season. Can mark, ruck and play forward. Aside from the others demo has mentioned I think the club should consider Connor Blakely’s brother Nathan. Again, can ruck, move forward and has agility. Not sure of his age though and is studying to be a doctor. Schloithe needs to be seriously looked at. The success of Tim Kelly may mean that he goes earlier than what Fremantle may want to pay. We desperately need a midfielder than can also play forward pocket.
Fremantle’s recruitment of Scott Jones has me baffled. It would be particularly cruel for a club to delist a player after one season but I just can’t see him being an afl player. So big and immobile. A real 70’s ruckman. I suppose the club was looking for a Sandi clone but if you were looking for a ready made ruckman then there are any number that could have been picked ahead of Jones.

Fremantle have largely ignored mature players from the wafl over the years, certainly more so than west coast, to our detriment.

Yeah I think we should go with the MATs this year. Forget all the hype around the 18yr olds unless we can grab an absolute gun with our first pick.

I agree with all the good things said about Gault, plus he is a hard worker and has a steady temperament.

The priority target from Subiaco should be Schofield.

Thanks, CA, for starting up this thread.

My only concern with Gault is his age - which is why Jones prob got the nod in front of him. If we’re gong to load up with WAFL talent I’m more inclined towards the 21-23 age bracket. We’re a couple of years, at least, away from really contending and I’m not sure he’d be a part of that.

One of downsides to mature age recruits is the limited number of really good years you get out of them. If you’re up and about and in contention - picking 23+ year olds might be enough to get you over the line. Very nearly worked with us with blokes like Spurr, Barlow & Mzungu.

Not sure we need a lot more rucks, though. Unlike Moller, Strnadica comes from a footy background. He was talked up on here prior to being rookied by us and it’s worth noting he played league on Saturday and Jones reserves. I hope we persist with him - if he can convert his hitout dominance to advantage for the mids with a bit of coaching from 211 he could be anything. He also seems to know where the goals are, averaging more than a goal per game this year.

Loersch might be worth a look. Was on GC’s rookie list until this year and is about to turn 23. Haven’t seen him play at East Freo this year but he’s averaging nearly 4 goals and 6 marks a game in, I hate to say, a pretty crap team. Could use a forward producing those sort of results.

Really surprised that Schloithe wasn’t at least rookie listed last year so perhaps there are some attitude or other issues in play we’re not privy too? But you’d think after Tim Kelly’s year someone will get him this time around.

Our weakness, which was our primary strength and it could be argued we ‘invented’ the concept, is a lack of big-bodied midfielders. It’s that area I’d like to see focussed on in our mature age talent pursuit.

There's not too much point in getting mature talent at our stage of development unless they are around the 21 mark. Players like Banfield who still has 7/8yrs to play at the top level.

I like what Gault can do, he is clearly a step above the WAFL but he never seems to grab games and dominate them. He could be a useful top up to a side in contention but I don't see him as a good option for us.

Subi have plenty of cash to splash around on all the best players so I'm not sure why everyone's so surprised at them having such a dominant side. Anyone could coach them to success when you are able to poach all the best players in the WAFL. I don't think Schofield has kind words to say about Freo either just from the post match 'celebrations' in Subi's rooms after last year's GF. Very dark and down on playing a bunch of AFL players and Freo's decision to do so.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Biz - How many times have you watched him closely and live?
Are you commentating with already perceived views of him or have you not seen him play live recently?
He is playing in a crap team...a worse game plan than ours with very limited opportunity and his strengths are not being utilised..
