Jezza - I said systemic failure, not systematic. Slightly different things mate.
To put it another way - a lot of things in the machinery of the club are not running smoothly.
I agree that it is not all about the coach. It's hard to suggest our medical and fitness are performing well, or our recruitment, or our development, or our drafting and trading etc etc. And yes it goes back a considerable period. Let's face it, we haven't done much very well since inception.
But at least - recalling the early days so beautifully captured by Matt Price (may he rest in peace and not have witnessed the past 3 years) - we were inept, but in a unique, eccentric, and quirky way. We did things a bit differently, and they often went balls up, but there was a sense of identity and some other indefinable something that I feel we have lost. Now when we fail we just do so in a boring, grinding, unimaginative, soulless manner.
The one thing that is certain is that the club is not travelling well. We had short spike of comparative on field success and fell off a cliff. Nobody in the current structure has ever been part of a rebuilding program - Lyon included. So what is needed is a comprehensive review, preferably by someone who has been through this process previously, to determine how to address the issues in each area of our club, and the authority to take the action needed in each area to turn this around.
To carry on regardless as we are doing is madness and indefensible.
