We didn't win a prem 2 years ago. That will buy you time and goodwill. List management should be dynamic and ongoing, not boom bust, bottom out, fall in a hole, start from the bottom.

Watch those 2015 games. The football was ugly, error ridden and we fell over the line in a lot of games and bounced out of final quick sharp. Hence the plummet to the bottom the next year, which in memory, no minor premiership side has done. The rot started there.

But clearly, things are looking up 3 years later. Oh wait...

Yeah, nah.

We were successful for longer. Dogs pinched one on a wave of favourism in their home state whilst the umps crucified Sydney and Franklin was on one leg. I'm glad they won but they got lucky.

They have fallen faster and from a greater pinnacle and no one is kicking them.

Richmond 2016 won 8 games, ended with a % of 79.5 and had 5 losses of 68 points or more including going down by 113 points in the last round to Sydney. Maybe not quite as dismal as the Freo 2018 side but proof enough that teams can rebound quickly.

At the risk of doubling down on Ross, now is the time to invest in some A grade assistant coaches. I think that the role of the assistant coach is undervalued at Fremantle and im not sure we have the best people in those roles. I won't speculate on why, but I do think there was(is?) an attitude at the club that an A grade senior coach should be enough to get the job done.

By the end of next season there will be calls for Beveridges head (if they don't perform anyway). And I rather imagine that some of their supporters will be saying that the game has passed Beveridge by. I just wish I was smart enough to know when the game had passed a coach by. Then of course people say that some coach has done well with the players they have, and another coach underperformed given their list. And again, I can't tell.
But if we cast our minds back to the start of the year most people here had the slime finishing near the bottom - so I reckon most of us have no idea either.
