The other damning critique of Lyon is his apparent disregard for the need for skills training.

This isn’t just Ross Lyon’s fault, although he’s done his bit. This is across all levels. Admin, recruiting, the board, recruiting again.
It takes a special kind of incompetence to assemble a list this bad.

Hey Rhufus ... Pre season 2016 ... Sumich tried to point a few things out to Lyon. You know the rest of the story from there. Don't expect any assistant coach who values his employment pointing anything out to Lyon again. The word Tyrant comes to mind though I expect, in his own mind, he thinks he's a benevolent one. Similarly I understand Kirk left because of some acid remarks. Na, don't expect change to come from within the coaching group.

I can’t remember exactly when Sumich became a super coach. Was it while he was at West Coast, when he was at Freo, or after he was sacked? It sure feels like he wasn’t rated by most on here when he was a forward coach for us and it doesn’t seem like he has been particularly rated by people appointing AFL senior coaches.

I’m just putting it out there as a theory, but is it possible Lyon turfed him - if that’s actually what happened - because Sumich wasn’t a particularly good coach?

So given he'll lose his job if he can't change, can Ross change? Or are we looking at the frog carrying the scorpion across the river?

Remember the purple march to the MCG, how about a purple exodus from Optus Stadium at first bounce down next week in protest.

Yeah I remember what happened to Suma. Maybe it was because he disagreed with the game plan. maybe not. Rosco presumably told the board I want to do it my way, more hands on. Well hes done that and I think he needs help. Ross isnt in as strong as position as he was a year ago. A few things have happened including another bad year on the field, certain incidents off the field and another year off his contract and a lessening in any payout. His position gets less secure as time goes on. He may actually be up for some friendly advice.

Not holding my breath but I only put this out there because I cant see Bond and Rosich sacking him, regardless of results.

Morgan, never said Sumich was a super coach? His abilities have nothing to do with how he was frozen out of the Coaching Group at Fremantle. If you remember Lyon was singing his praises one minute then not prepared to endorse him the next.

To give the situation perspective, read this article www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/the-new-lyon...20160205-gmmjwe.html.

His new found philosophy of not having hands on didn't work and it was clearly evident at the time (pre season 2016). Sumich I understand pointed this out to him, said that he needed to be more hands on as there was no cohesion among the coaching group, which is something you would expect a senior coach would ensure. I think it is clearly self evident to all that Lyon does not respond well when he is questioned. Look at his public performances, which really say much about the nature of the man. Consequently Sumich was isolated from the coaching group and basically banished from the coaches box for the subsequent season, mostly sitting with a clipboard doing sfa on the boundary for the games that followed.

Don't expect Lyon to change his ways. You would expect the Board will eventually do it for him. Given that the club is big business I imagine there is a tipping point. ie How many lost memberships = the cost of retaining Lyon because, as it stands, I imagine an exodus of members next year. That is the only empowerment that we members have and probably the only thing this profit driven business will understand.

Appoint an assistant to tell Ross what to do?
Yeah, right.

Probably why, after 2016 this odd appointment was made. Wonder if he is still there. Doesn't seemed to have worked regardless.

"The Dockers have brought on board Tom Morris, the former Australian and Canadian national rowing coach, who has slipped into the new position of coaching high performance manager.

Reporting directly to football operations manager Chris Bond, his aim will be to ensure senior coach Ross Lyon, his assistants and development coaches are passing on the right information to the playing group."

The point is ... Lyon does not listen. Shame because apparently Hardwick did!

Yeah, I was going to ask what the rowing coach was doing about this? SFA, I imagine...

We went from 13th to 14th. Perfect result in my book. Pity we can't fall any further down the ladder.

Morgan, cross me off the "Sumich the supercoach" after he walked out on Lyon list. I have said all along he is a very good assistant, and forwards coach. Not sure about senior coach however.

Our forward line has been non-existant since he left.
