TOPIC: Brad Lloyd to carlton as head of footy

Freo Hopeful
Sam McClure via SEN is reporting that Brad Lloyd is the new head of footy at Carlton.

Guess Freo need a new recruiting person....

Apparently Chris Bond (Brads boss and has links to Carlton) was not even approached by Carlton.

Just a huge loss for our club. But given hes been part time since 2016 things should be ok.

I think he did well the last couple of years in recruiting a more balance approach instead of the obsession with only half forward/midfielders we had for 5 years. Unfortunately leaves us this year with only one meaningful pick.

This is a huge loss for the club. Will he be involved in this year’s draft?

Too much conflict of interest for Lloyd to be involved at the club anymore. I would say they will part ways almost immediately.

How come no other clubs are interested in Bond?

I've always believed that you can tell a lot about the character of a colleague by how they handle their exit. By trading away so many picks in the 2018 draft, Lloyd has ensured his replacement won't have too much to do this November.

A true professional.

So then, our pick 6 must be going somewhere. Could it be we’re after Kelly? I would say we don’t need Lloyd to make that happen.

What odds of Cerra in Navy blue 2020 or maybe even next year.

Personally if I was Lloyd I'd look to grab him end 2019 when his contract is up and we have much less leverage / bargaining power.

And need to be extra extra careful re Kelly.

He's arguably the 4th or 5th midfielder (behind Danger, Selwood, Ablett, and maybe Duncan) in a team that'll scrape in to the 8 at best.

Feels like the Hedland trade (loved him) but we paid way over based on other teams focusing on Voss, Lapin, Black et al and leaving him to roam free.
