TOPIC: Lobb

I'm not seeing the value in chasing him. I'm assuming he's not going to come cheaply and he's a ruckman which we don't need. He's played a bit in the forward line but is not going to be some great goal kicking forward that we need.
His bio for the Giants doesn't make for exciting reading.
Don't even know if he's interested but there has been continual talk about Hogan and I think he's a better option overall.

CA,
I agree with your assessment of Lobb but I'm not seeing Hogan as a realistic possibility.

He's moved his family to Melbourne. He's signed up until the end of next year. Melbourne are on the verge of being realistic contenders for a flag.

I don't think there is anything to attract him to walk out on Melbourne just because he used to support Freo as a youngster.

I think we've missed that boat

Here’s the thing. Sean Darcy is a very viable trade option. And no, I wouldn’t trade him but if Kelly wishes to end his stay at Geelong, would the trade be considered. Then Lobb becomes a target I would’ve thought. As for Hogan, I’d sell the farm to get him.

There is no way in the world Geelong would swap Kelly for Darcy.

In summary Jezza, no.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Yeah sure Jezza...

get rid of a ready made ruck replacement for Sandi who can play and kick goals for the sake of a talented midfielder.

Sure. And people wonder why you preach from the Book of RoLy so hard.

Not so sure about that. Geelong are a bit light on for ruckman who can stay fit and Darcy would certainly be young enough and shown enough talent already to warrant consideration.

If they’re likely to lose Kelly next year back to a Perth-based they side might as well get what they can when it’s a sellers market rather than a buyer’s.

However, I’m not convinced we have enough quality outside of Sandi (who we’ll get one more year out of at best - and then only part thereof) & Darcy, to risk letting him go.

Jones is big but that’s about it and we haven’t seen Meek or Strnadica to assess. Apeness is too injury prone to rely on and who’s left after that? I shudder at the thought of our key forwards (Cox & Tabs) rotating through the ruck as they are desperately needed in the forward line.

I reckon Lobb is not a great forward and not a great ruckman.. He is a jack of all trades but a master of none.. He would be a bit different to our big lumbering types like Hodor, Meek and Jones. I know this a thread about Lobb but do you guys think our pick 6 which will end up pick 7 would be worth trading for Tim Kelly this year. If Tim Kelly comes in and Brayshaw and Cerra develop this could allow Fyfe to play forward. Also blocking the eagles from getting Kelly must be worth a bit.

No offence Detox but the idea of Fyfe being used as a permanent forward has been put to bed by himself and Roly. He has to be used as he is, in the midfield with spells in the forward line. Similar to what other clubs do with Martin, Dangerfield and Bontempelli.

Darcy will be the best ruckman in the league by the time he's 23. You'd have to be all six cans short of a six-pack to even consider trading him.

Our last pick 7 was Rhys Palmer. There’s been plenty of discussion about that get. So I’m happy to just load up again with 7 and not much else and ready for our assault on sustained success.

Lobb is the ideal replacement for Zac Clarke. He wasn't a particularly good forward or ruck, but I think we've missed what he brought to the team, at least up to the time he busted his knee.

That's not a particularly glowing endorsement DM. And he'll cost us plenty.

I seriously can't believe some of these possible trade targets that people revisit every year. Lobb is not a great ruckman whereas Darcy wins the majority of ruck contests and will only get better, Lobb has been replaced as Giants preferred ruck by Dawson Simpson, a Geelong reject. He is also not a great forward and does not present as well as Matt Taberner who is one of the top contested marks in the AFL. We also have Apeness, when he's on the park, and Cox who are probably better forward options. Other big men still developing who look likely prospects are Hugh Dixon, Griff Logue and Lloyd Meek as well as Scott Jones and Strnadica. We do not need Lobb and when Taberner and Cox play I'm not sure we need Hogan either. Please look at the potential we already have on our list before persistently popping up the same names year after year.
Why can't we draft Dillon O'Reilly and make our own stars with a bit of family history while we are at it.
