I was not at the derby last weekend nor did I see the game on TV, but having watched part of the replay I cannot understand, with all these umpirers on the ground why was Gaff not reported or even a free kick awarded to Fremantle.
Did I miss something.

In fairness to the umps, I'm not sure you can expect them to be watching something 30m off the ball. In fact you'd probably prefer they focussed on the game unless there was a reason to look elsewhere.

No-one could have predicted that Gaff and Brayshaw, of all people, running along would lead to a hit off the play.

Who was that bloke dressed like Kermit almost parallel with the assault.....the trainee umpire or the one that payed a free about 100m off the ball when Tabs got pinged in the first qtr in the goal square? I’m all for supporting the disabled, but vision impaired umps is going too far.

In the WAFL, two umpires were stood down for nor reporting a player for a reportable incident, and that would be without all the comms and razzmatazz at an AFL game.

Noddy, the muppet dressed like Kermit you asked about is No 25 Shaun Ryan. He's umpired 425 matches, 282 AFL games, including 5 grand finals, up to the end of last season (according to the umpires website: Muppets). He's a Victorian, and a barrister in his day job. He obviously has more than enough training and experience, so why, in the video: king hit - play on, is he seen standing in the centre square, seemingly looking towards Gaff and AB, and then raises his arms to call play on?

Presumably because he wasn't looking at those two players.

If an umpire penalised Freo for something he thought had happened as opposed to seeing it clearly, everyone would be up in arms.
