Is it just me or does this bloke appear to have absolutely no clue?

No matter how many former or current players/coaches have come out suggesting a send off rule for extreme acts is warranted - he won’t even consider it.

He won’t do what is howling obvious to everyone else and fix the goal review system by spending a few grand fitting GoPro cameras or similar to the top of goal posts - facing down.

Yet he has all the time in the world trying to ‘improve’ a game by adding new rules when tthe real issue is too many teams diluting the talent pool such that there will always be cellar dwellers who are simply not up to AFL standard.

Add to that a fixture in a supposedly ‘national’ competition that is so farcical in its composition & biased toward Victorian teams that a team that has lost every interstate game sits a game clear on top of the ladder.

No wonder Eyebrows liked him - no genuine initiative to be a threat to his job and a sure bet to screw over non-Victorian teams as soon as he did get the gig.

Since he became CEO no interstate team has won a flag (10 of the last 11 flags won by Victorian teams - even though 7 interstate sides have featured in the GF through that period). Lack of access for interstate teams to the MCG for training and regular games stacks the deck further in favour of the Vics.

The Auskick bye round before finals he introduced as a knee-jerk reaction to a very rare event only advantages Melbourne teams further as they are unaccustomed to regular interstate travel. It certainly helped the Bulldogs in 2016.

Here’s an idea Gil, how about fixing the obvious things that are wrong with footy today as I described above?? If after those have been implemented and the game is still not up to the level of satisfaction your focus groups tell you it needs to be - then tinker some more with the rules.

But I reckon you’ve got enough there to keep you busy until the end of your contract.

The obvious things is not to do things that reduce our passion for the sport.
You want to get me excited at a game? Show me replays of controversial incidents.
Want to get me truly committed to my team, don't encourage player movement between clubs.

'McLachlan is the product of the bubble of elite polo, cricket, private school, uni,. ....and what life work experience after?
The position is one for the boys club.
He gives me the impression that he never had a toy in his youth and the AFL is his transformer toy and he's making up for lost time.
Andrew Demetriou was a solid guy but he was weak with poor Victorian clubs moving out of Victoria.
I thought Mike Fitzpatrick was a disappointment in his position with the AFL.

Mike Fitzpatrick was more than just disappointing. I'd dearly love for an outside agency to look at the AFL over the last 10 years.

McLachlan seems entirely out of his depth. The AFL has reacted entirely on appearances under his management buy without any real idea of why it is reacting. ie. Two senior employees get sacked for having consensual relations with female staff (and not impressionable youngsters) and the same management wants to have an expanded AFLW competition in a short time frame that doesn't allow all the teams to play each other.

What do they actually stand for? Who knows? Who can know when they don't know at AFL House.

They also talk about protecting the head, bad look for the game etc but have flexible gradings when it comes to 'star' players, especially from Victorian teams.

To me, the whole thing has completely degenerated to a 'money before integrity' situation and they only react to things that might affect the money flow.

The whole organisation needs cleaning up but that can only happen from outside. Those inside are too conflicted to be able to function.
