TOPIC: The Good The Bad & The Ugly

Richmond are an Interesting example to consider, in that they play a sort of Roly-ball, but successfully. They also have a huge advantage, one that just can't be understated, in that they somehow get to play two thirds or more of the season at the MCG. Their only losses are in 'proper' away games, interstate, on footy grounds they are unfamiliar with. Which leads to the obvious conclusion that their particular form of Roly-ball is specifically adapted to the MCG. What chance do any interstate teams have when the odds are so deliberately stacked against?

Alex Pearce has been good with the workload he's been given each week with 39 games under his belt.

Agreed, pretty hard to develop a winning game plan for a GF on a ground where your opponents play 14+ times a year and you get one or two as an interstate side - if you’re lucky! In 2012 our first game at the ‘G was an Elimination Final - which we managed to win despite that handicap.

True Mac, but that's my point. He appears at tipping point and we can't afford to have him break down. We're not playing for anything and plenty of other youngsters are managed throughout the league. So with his history should we not be doing that with him?

And as I recall the success of the doggies in their premiership year was also based on immense pressure on the ball carrier. I remember them playing the slime, and when the slime took the ball down the wing out of defense they were continually under pressure - and against most teams the slime were under little or no pressure when doing that.

Anyway, our guys aren't strong enough or good enough one on one for any game plan to work yet.

Is the alternative to Roleyball the Hawks pinpoint passing?

Don't think so Rog because we don't have and have rarely recruited many pin point passers.

Yes RR, but the passee's have to be up forward of the passers. Look at the improvement In B Hill's kicking in the last month. If we could only get 5 or 6 targets up forward as the Hawks do, our players can kick well enough ( Given they spend more time at training working on that skill). Even though at times Sunday we had 2 or even 3 players up front, they
were still not far enough forward of the play to lead at the midfield very often. Anyone who has played the game knows the hardest kick to nail in footy is the pass to a player leading away from you.

Every premier has elite pressure, they are winning and the pressure is almost always on the opposition. They retain possession and have talented players who know where to go to get the ball. There are very few premiers who haven't been considered elite pressure teams.

As an aside, Tucker had 22 touches and a goal last week when the Hawks smashed us to be one of the few who stood up and competed. He's far better than anyone we have to bring in from the WAFL and there were plenty more players with less impact in the derby like Langdon.

APearce has been struggling for a while and could do with a rest.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Alex Pearce should get an easier time this week against Carlton. That's almost as good as a rest.

Agree on Tucker Bizkit. He's looking ok.

Agree with Dockermus. Playing Carlton is effectively a rest. But one where you get to play footy too.
