We were always going to be a pretty ordinary chance today. Nobody would've expected Freo to win! All we wanted was to see some good "have a go" system. Then that 3rd quarter sickening incident with Brayshaw and Gaff.and all of a sudden we were back in the old VFL days of behind the play thuggery . Anyway, really hope the young boy Brayshaw recovers quickly and in a way I do feel sorry for Gaff as he was truly morseful afterwards but that's no excuse for his actions, and he deserves a minimum of 6 weeks. Now, the only true way the purple team will go close to winning anything this year is supporting Freo Fan, Courtney on Channel 9's THE BLOCK! .... Let's Go Freo!

I am feeling a massive sense of loss today. I have always had a great admiration for Andrew Gaff and the way he has played the game throughout his career. Something happened at today's game that I cannot come to grips with. I feel Gaff's action was very much out of character for him, however it is something that will he will now have to live with, and that it will be something that he will forever reflect upon with a great deal of sadness and regret . From my point of view, there is no place for this type of incident in our game. As much as it pains me to say it, I believe that a line must now be drawn in the sand, and that criminal charges have to be considered for this incident.
More immediate though, what I want to know is what support the Club is going to provide going forward for young Andrew Brayshaw and his family. My son is 18. This weekend, one of his junior footy mates from the Mt Lawley-Inglewood Junior Football Club debuted for Brisbane. If this had happened to my son, I would be absolutely devastated. I want our Club to provide clear leadership in this matter. I want them to keep us as members fully informed on AB's situation. I am also feel particularly concerned for the impact that this would be having on Andy's brother Hamish, as a first year player on the Eagle's list.

Back on topic, facts are pretty elusive at the moment. The Perth Media is pushing anywhere from 2-6 weeks, the eastern seaboard media anywhere from 8-12 weeks. WA, its media, its people, its small town mentality was on national display yesterday and its embarrassing.

Andrew Gaff is not the biggest problem in all this. I listened to Dennis Cometti this morning and it was like he was writing a character reference to Gaff. He criticized Des Headland's reaction to Adam Selwood more than Gaff this morning. In fact he didn't even criticize Andrew Gaff at all. What if Bennell did the same thing to Gaff?

This is about WA and everything Eagles.

On the AFL's own 'AAA' (Access All Areas) this morning, Matthew Lloyd and Jimmy Bartel both observed that it would not be a good look if Gaff were to be able to play in the GF, should the Eagles make it that far. Their view, therefore, was that a minimum penalty of seven weeks would be appropriate.
They also pointed out that his clean record after 175 games would be taken into account and a discount would be applied. Clearly the only mitigation Gaff can offer is his previously clean record.
So their penalty would be an 8 week minimum. I can live with that.

By the time we get around to what's laughingly called "the news" on Ch Eagle tonight, Bazil the Schnoz will be calling young Brayshaw the agent provocateur, whose aggressive, relentless and thuggish scragging severely provoked the otherwise saintly Gaff-y into trying to defend himself. Baz will be demanding to know when the AFL is going to take action against the Dockers for their unsporting behavior.

I thought Ryans solid hit on Neale shows the difference in the character of the two teams players.
The bump was solid and Lachie knew it was fair and copped his whack like a man.
No problem there, play on. Good hard footy the way it should be played.
Lachie Neale is a class act and a great leader for such a young man.
If someone whacks you in a way thats not in the spirit of the game, you and your teamates have every right to fly the flag.
If its an accepted part of the game and does not contravene the rules, the physicality is fair and a part of the game we love.
Doesn't mean you don't look up and see the number of who got you. Every dog has his day!
