Yeah nah, good pick up but won’t solve our biggest problem. We need a tall forward. We should only go afterTK if we think Tabs and Cox are the real deal.

The odds of this guy coming to us might have just ballooned out.. after watching yesterday’s game I would hand our first pick over in a heartbeat.. our mids don’t really spread away from the stoppage like he does.. exactly what we need

Our mids "spread" away from the stoppage, but then have no options downfield, so the ball goes round in circles until someone sprints away from the stoppage to the forward line, or we turn it over, whichever comes first.

He will not solve our problems.
Doesn’t it really rub salt in the wounds to see players that apparently weren’t as talented as guys on our list playing well at other clubs.
I have long held the belief that it is more about what you do when you get them than who you get. This is what is so concerning so many are going backwards.
Menegola, Mayne, Kelly and DeBoer could all be on our list and playing good football. I’m not saying it was the wrong thing to not have these players but what the hell is going on that we aren’t getting the best out here f what we have.
As an example Michael Walters should be a top 20 player in this league. I doubt many non Fremantle supporters would have him in the top 75. Two players we all love to pile it on in Sheridan and Sutcliffe were both promising when they first joined the team both will probably finish up at the end of this season having never improved.

DBTS our list has plenty of talent, and is finals and even top 4 potential.
"Menegola, Mayne, Kelly and DeBoer could all be on our list and playing good football."
If those players were on our list, they would not be playing good football.

You are right with this statement
I have long held the belief that it is more about what you do when you get them than who you get. This is what is so concerning so many are going backwards.

That is what the problem is. We have been going backwards since June 2015.

That was my point with those four guys RM. each time I have watched Mayne this year he has played well and wil easily see out his contract in the ones.

Its about giving opportunities.

Opportunities for mids to play back, key backs to play forward, key forwards in the ruck, and small forwards in the midfield.

Can't develop without opportunity.

If you were Tim Kelly would you even raise an eyebrow at Freo? Course not! There’s something fundamentally wrong at the club when good young players, seasoned veterans and the like have no game plan on the field. This rests with Roly. Kelly will go to West Coast because they have a future. Our club is stuffed

We are not stuffed, we are in need of a competent administration and competent coaching staff. Once we get that everything will work fine. Have you ever seen a car with no driveshaft and no wheels? It doesn't take much to put the required pieces in place to make it go, but it is something that has to be done to make it go. We are in the same boat.

We need to remember that Kelly gets a free run because Geelong also have Dangerfield, Selwood, Ablett and Duncan in the midfield. Otherwise he's 4th or 5th in line to be covered by the opposition in the midfield.

Really though Raggy your post that says we're not stuffed actually also shows that we are stuffed in the short term anyway.

The thing about Kelly and probably applies to many others...he has always had class, a true footballer. He has always "had it". But, he didn't shine as an 18 year old (big mistake) and he had to work for a living and raise a family.
He was rightly not going to be picked up as an early draft, but at the very least he should have been on a rookie list at a club! Any club! Have a look at the list of rookies that we and other clubs have picked up over the years. Many success stories but a lot of players who did not do much or who were never given a chance.
Another supposed reason he was overlooked was because of lack of straight line speed. Another crock of shite. Don't recruiters learn anything from history? The great plodders who knew how to get the ball and what to do with it.
There are many Kellys out there with the skill and nous to succeed...but as someone said earlier, he may not have thrived under Freo "system".

I still believe there is far too much emphasis and scrutiny on a young 18 yr old who has never played against grown men that might one day be a champion versus a proven higher level player that could slot into your team and make an impact straight away not perhaps in the future.
So many of us here had been talking about Kelly, McGovern (and watch for Pickett this draft)that it feels as though we could be doing the recruiting for Freo
