a bit of context here. He got voted by 2 coaches as being equal second behind Clarkson as a gameday coach. No mention of list development, no mention of game plan development and no mention of player development. That also means that 14 coaches out of 16 didn't put him up

The same survey rated Max Gawn as the game's most valuable player. Max Gawn in front of Fyfe, Dangerfield, Ablett, Martin...Max Gawn...think about it

The article looked entirely realistic to me. Just watching Geelong vs Richmond makes me realise how our younger players desperately need 2 - 3 years more development. When it comes to quick instinctive reactions and beating your man one on one when you've got the ball, we just aren't there yet. Our young guys are more likely to take an advantageous situation and fumble their way to a turnover. But that will go with time.

Our young players are fumbling because they have no clear way forward when they get the footy. Anyone who has played the game at any level knows that if you have nothing in front of you when you get the footy, your mind is not going to be on taking clean possession.

Being able to focus entirely on grabbing the footy, because you know once you look up you will have 3 or 4 options making leads AT YOU, will make a huge difference to our turnover stats in a positive way. The hardest kick in footy is trying to pinpoint a pass to a player running away from you. That however is our go to option. According to reports from training, we don't even spend the required time developing the skills needed to do that.

Richmond plays the same way Freo in the 2012-2015 years played. They put heaps of pressure on the ball, and out work their opponent. The go harder for longer, and have more continuity with the core of their team.

The difference to those Freo teams is Richmond have a bit more talent forward (Reiwoldt, Dusty, Caddy, Rioli), only travel 5 games a season, play the finals at their home ground and there’s no Hawthorn super-team in the way.

You might think the game has gone by Lyon, he’s probably thinking Richmond just caught up to him.

Of course its not just our forward line either. We have newbies all over the ground. And my guess is that who ever makes the grand final will only have one or two first year players.

RM, you just defy belief. Playing the game at any level is different to playing the game at elite level. You might get away with the stuff you’re talking about in the bush league. What separates players at the elite level is the stuff between the ears. Please give me a break.
