TOPIC: What coaches think

A revealing insight into just why the game is in crisis / disarray / terminal decline / your choice of doomword, the coaches have been anonymously surveyed on a range of topics including the MVP and stats that don't matter...

groundbreaking report revealed here

AFL COACHES have voted Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn the game’s most valuable player.

The 18 club coaches were asked to offer their thoughts on a host of topics in a 20-question anonymous online survey, conducted by AFL Media in partnership with the AFL Coaches' Association, across several weeks in July.

All but two took part, with 25 per cent of respondents picking Gawn as the competition’s most influential player.

'all but two took part'... so which one do you reckon attended RoLy's 'How To Invest Successfully In A Bear Market' seminar instead?

The coaches were also asked to name the statistical categories often cited by media and fans they believed had little bearing on the result of matches, with 18.75 per cent of coaches listing kicking efficiency and the same percentage pointing to tackle numbers.

They also said total disposals, hit-outs and free kicks had little impact on the outcome of games.

I rest my case. I don't know what my case is, but i rest it for now. In case I need it later. Hurrr hurrr.

What, no NicNot. This survey must be a sham. I rest my case too. I think I'll rest it on the couch and get back to it later.

He lives by the highlighted principles.

It just shows however that the coaches place no value on the games aesthetics and unique origins. Max Gawn, the games most influential player? Give me a break.

I would like to know out of all the players with hair;
i) Do you brush your hair before the game?
ii) Do you apply moose to your hair?
iii) If not moose, do you apply a gel product?
iv) Does this improve their performance?

Then for the players without hair;
i) Do they shampoo their heads before the game?
ii) Do they believe they play more effective without hair?
iii) Had their performance improved after not wearing hair?

Can't see having moose in your hair enhancing performance.

The weight, for starters. Then the antlers getting in the way.

Antlers could generate some innovation in tackles.

Then again, if someone went with mousse - chocolate, raspberry, chocolate/raspberry swirl e.g. - you might get some extra high contact frees. Boys must get a bit peckish late in a game.

Perhaps retro round could feature coiffures styled with brylcreem or california poppy. Throw in some creme brulee for those who get peckish.

Did Floss vote for himself? That still leaves one more..

'The coaches named Hawthorn’s Alastair Clarkson as the AFL’s best match-day coach, with the four-time premiership winner snaring nearly 50 per cent of the vote.

Fremantle’s Ross Lyon and Western Bulldogs premiership coach Luke Beveridge each received 13 per cent of the vote, with Brisbane's Chris Fagan, Geelong's Chris Scott, Richmond’s Damien Hardwick and Sydney's John Longmire also recognised by their peers.'

Has the gloss worn off Dustin Martin? Has he become boring?
If Carlton were in the top eight Jack Silvagni would be a more of a star in the Melbourne bais eyes.
As his overrated oldman Stephen Silvagni. Voted in the VFL Team of the century hours after retiring in 1996 was a joke and it it was exactly the same as Dusty getting BOG in last year grand final. It's a safe vote.
There's another Silvagni son coming and the Melbourne people in the know say "Yes he's better than both"
It's a novelty vote for Max Gawn as for NicNat who gets our kids excited about our boring 2018 game.

Some deep analysis is called for here chaps.

When you're looking at a sample of 18, less two abstainers, then a vote of 18.75% is 3 votes.

There is a real possibility the game is oversubscribed with affiliated media types desperately trying to find a story, along with the sheer volume of coaches crowding out the coaching boxes.
