We were outplayed by a better team with much more experience than ours, 6 newbies to our 12, and got belted in the middle 16 to 7.

Walters is not a mid fielder. He gives 100% in every contest but he’s not strong enough in the contests to win a hard ball. It’s like having Eddie Betts in the middle, it’d be a waste of goal kicking talent

We need Walters class and pressure in the forward line and to coach and be at the feet of blokes like Cox and Darcy etc.

I’m not sure as to how many debutants Hawthorn played this year compared to our 7-8. That’s the tale of our year. Until we accept that Freo are a very young and inexperienced side, the negativity will continue. Clearly my expectations were off the mark but there’s always a silver lining. 10 other teams won’t qualify for finals, some clearly are in a worse state than Freo.

A young and inexperienced side is one thing. Still looking like a clueless and inexperienced side, with no structure, even when we have our best 22 playing, is another.

Freo play the same crap football regardless of the personnel. If things continue as they are, they will carry on doing that, with more experienced players.

I prefer pessimistic realism over stubborn optimism.

Yeah Drubbing, but pessimism like that will make it come true. If the players and coaching staff don't think like that, then the pessimistic outcome won't happen.

Really? How can anything supporters say become a self fulfilling prophecy for the players? That's a nuts suggestion.

What exactly are the coaching staff thinking and doing? I don't know, but it clearly isn't working. It didn't work when we had an experienced side, and it doesn't work now.

The coaching staff don't know what they are doing , they try to do what they are told but it doesn't work like that in real life situations like professional football .

My feeling is that, regardless of who's in or out of the team, they continue to play in an unimaginative, timid manner, as if they're too confused about what to do next, or frightened of making a mistake. It's not really a defensive game plan at fault, more that players are just scared of doing the 'wrong' thing. The whole playing group would be invigorated by a change of coach,

We are only 1 cleanout of the coaches box away from being a finals side. Any competent coach would be picking our side on form, not running ability, and would be playing a forward line to enable us to kick goals. I reckon we would get a much better deal from most of the umpires as well, if Lyon was not coaching us.
