I'm going to assume that Banfield was not tagging today because I thought he had a pretty good game. I think Banfield can give us more as a midfielder and leave the tagging role to a Nyhuis or Giro.

Yes, ridiculous coaching by starting Walters on him. Hawthorn had its 1st goal within 23 seconds and their 2nd within 2 mins on the back of Mitchell.

Second half - Hawks get a goal within less than a minute of the opening bounce.

More genius - dropping McCarthy and having to play Hambling and Ryan in the forward line.

Davo, you really think it was wrong to drop McCarthy after his form? People complain that Lyon never tries anything different. I know game was over and it was junk time but both Hamling and Ryan looked more likely than anyone else up forward today.

Mitchell will win the Brownlow, he’s untaggable. I’m now convinced Walters is not a midfielder. Still that mauling today had little to do with coaching but more to do with personnel. Argue all you like but they still boast a glut of premiership players and players not in their debut year. That’s where we’re at. That’s just the reality of it.
