Just wondering about Banfield and his roll ?

He is a good tagger but - is it the best for him , could he be a better player doing another job ?

Just wondering , any ideas ?

I reckon he'll be good enough to play a "Lachie neale type' role.....and whilst it would be good for this young fellow to be released from 'being a tagger',
Im not certain its doing to much harm at the moment.

Think he'd be learning a fairbit from the fellows he is tagging...and this will hold him in good stead for the future.

His stats this year are pretty exceprional for a 19yr old rookie who who was overlooked by everyone. All credit to him!!

Its amazing he hasnt been nominated for the rising star.

He's a defensive midfielder - he's doing a lot more than tagging. What a great pick up. You'd be satisfied if you spent pick 20 on the guy. He was a rookie.

Definitely like to see banfield given some other roles. It's clear that he is a great tagger but he could be more than that.

I reckon give Tucker a crack at tagging with an indication that if he can't make a fist of that then he's unlikely to make it in the AFL. Hes got the physical strength but does he have the mental strength?

I’m pretty sure Lyon said the same thing in a post-game presser early in the season. Sheridan has had some success as a tagger. While he’s in the team I’d hope he can play that role a bit to free Banfield up a bit.

I think Bailey Banfield has been given poor press as a result of the game on the weekend where Mitchel was able to accumulate 42 touches.
It’s reported he didn’t start on Mitchell and went to him after the first 2 goals. Banfield played on him for a period of time and then I think it was Tucker who was assigned the task?
I think this stroke of coaching genius should be made clear .

I would be surprised if Clarkson was even at the game and didn't coach from his room at crown towers. Not sending a hard tag straight to Mitchell was lunacy. The Hawthorn coaching panel would have been in hysterics.

I would like to see Banfield in a pocket or half forward. He seems like one of the few natural footballers we have unearthed and reckon he would be good for a couple of sneaky goals a game. Kind of the role Matera was recruited for, but competent at it.
