Well Morgan, given that that rule is 1 of the dumbest of the dumber rules introduced over the last 20 years, why don't the umpires just ignore it and go back to calling play on after reasonable time has expired, taking a shot or not. This is just another example of coaches and players taking advantage of reactionary, ill thought out rule changes brought in by Dimitrio and his clones. If the rules committee took 5 years, instead of 5 minutes, to think about rule changes, they would realize that most of them are unnecessary in the first place.
Perhaps a quiet word in the ears of the Boards of Management of clubs who have coaches making the game unattractive with their tactics could see the problem solved with much less pain to the general public.
