Inexplicable match tactics (again) today. No switching of the play ...all “down the line” . No attempt to “bang it down the middle “ in the closed roof stadium -except for one early poorly construed effort. All this, whilst apparently, some players were being kept ‘forward’ of the ball. Surely, he’d like to give the concept of a ‘forward line ‘ a chance to work.

Inexplicable!

Thought Jones did ok for a 4th gamer who had to carry the ruck.
Thought Banfield did really well and surely gets a rising star nomination - if not this game - but by the end of the year.
Thought Duman showed some signs today, and hope he learns from Wilson and Ryan -they were great.

Where was Cox?...and think he’s been missing since Mcarthy came back in.

And Mcarthy is offering absolutely nothing, and yes, I agree, he looks poorly conditioned. He needs extended time at Peel until, he can show that he can ‘dominate’ the Wafl competition. No more ‘giving him a game’ - make him ‘earn’ it.

I was at the Game today and agree totally with Awake.
Jones tried hard but was a bit lumbering, his tackle that set up the Mundy goal was great.
Johnno has a great football brain and looked dangerous in the forward line in the first half then seemed to get sent back/middle and didn’t have much of an impact in the second half.
Matera has become the next Danyelling, as soon as he got the ball we started trying to guess which bomber he was going to kick it to.
Crowd were booing Walters because they didn’t think being smacked in the head deserved a free kick. (They also yell “ball” a lot even when the Freo player has clearly handballed or kicked the ball away).
Giro fumbled and turned it over a few times.
Cam Mac was absolutely useless and needs to go back to peel.
Cerra will be a jet.
Banfield is the bargain of the draft, another great game.
With Fyfe out , Mundy needs to spend more time in the middle to show the kids how it’s done.
Our forward line ceased to exist in the second half.
We never move the ball through the middle and worse seem surprised when other teams do,

We played pretty good but ran out of puff in the last. Essendon blew quite a few chances. It was a good game to watch and some positive signs.

Would have been good to know why Langdon was so quiet. I had a feeling that he was being tagged by Colyer and then went on to Saad to try and stop his run from defense.
I thought Sheridan was ok. His handpassing was great at times. I didn’t think he did too much wrong. Matera was basically bombing it when under pressure.

Awake, I posted at half time, that I hoped we would keep attacking the game. We didn't. Your comments about the options for our players looking up the ground being a coaching problem is what some of us have been seeing for a few years now. Jones did show enough to keep on persevering with. Another pre season for him will be invaluable. Johnno was in pain before half time, he battled on and never gave up, but lost effectiveness in the second half. Interesting that he gave the box the "go to hell, I want another goal" message, knowing he has been sacked at the end of the year.

Walters played the old fashioned centremans game, worked hard through the middle and ran hard to take opportunities forward when they presented, was easily our best player and should get Brownlow votes. Cox seemed lost most of the day, is it possible that he was given "tasks" instead of being told to play as a CHF? McCarthy would have been better off playing as the second ruck, let Johnno play as a forward.

Your comments about B Hill's passing to Walters are telling, I believe that Walters is our only player who leads hard AT the kicker, and demands the footy to be kicked into space in front of him. Hill is then able to show the skills we recruited him for.

Was at the game at a freo function and was disappointed. We are going nowhere and if a bit more accuracy over by half time.
Still we were in the game and carried too many passengers.
Despite who is coming back next week , r Lyon guaranteed Sutcliffe a game next week. Which was in contradiction to not talking about match committee at pressers. So not sure who gets dropped for Brayshaw and Bennell ( if he ever gets back).
At the presser I thought Ross was childish and sees a conspiracy in every question. I am a supporter and I thought the reporters asked fair questions of which Lyon took exception to most.
Just like west coast did to Simpson on Friday and said he was out of line, the ceo of freo should tell Lyon to park his ego at the door and stop being a Prima Donna. He is supposed to represent the club and be a servant of the club. The club isnot here for him

A conspiracy in every question? When you've copped criticism for announcing the retirement of 2 players who are definitely retiring, then it is mischievous at the least for a reporter to ask about Sutcliffe's future.
I only saw the 2nd half of the game, but thought that Hughes may not work out. We'd had a period of very rapid play when he took a mark. The way we'd been going I expected him to play on, but he went back, took forever to take the kick and bombed it long to a bomber. Very disappointing.
Giro needs to go back to the WAFL a bit - he'll be great, but not just yet.
We really need another player who can be David Mundy in the middle.

I am a bit cynical about eagles management's response, unless it takes them a couple of days to warm up the facsimile machineey thingeeyy. It wasn't until they saw the reaction to their actions they came up with the response. Very similar to the Rosich administration in my opinion.

We beat Dons at Optus when our prime movers were fit and firing. Fyfe, Tabs, Sandi etc. I watched the Cats v Melb game and saw a Tom HAWKINS at 30, doing a Carey at his prime. Melb had their guns firing, a team stacked with high draft picks. The message here is, there’s a canyon between our good and bad games. We’re trying to build something that resembles what Geelong and Melbourne have. That’s where we’re at.
