Langdon had a shocker today, he didn't have any impact on the game at all. Fortunately he has plenty of credit in the bank as he has still been our best player this season by a mile.

Eventually
I think Sutcliffe is being played as a "De Boer" substitute at present but needs to give us more I agree. Sheridan is just filling the spaces left by, Fyfe, Hill and Brayshaw - he's never going to be in our best 22. As frustrating as it was today when you consider who wasnt playing today there is reason for lots of optimism. How much difference would an in form Apeness or Taberner made today, not to mention a few handy other legends!

Don't think Matera should be lumped in with that lot today. One of his better games in a slim pickings season.

Fwiw, watching from Etihad, Jones was really fantastic. Loved his work. May not get the stats but he influenced the game.
Giro had great effort but fumbled at times. Needs to be more composed.
Sutcliffe has put on size and his inside mid work is now excellent. Unfortunately his marking and kicking is not.
Seemed Langdon spent a lot of time fwd. Maybe need him at halfback.
Sunshine needs a spell and a perhaps a few weeks spent on finding his motivation.
I think selection this week will see dramatic changes.

I was at the game. I only have one request. Can someone please teach the Bummers supporters additional rules to call out during the game. Shouting “ball” every 30 secs hardly added to the spectacle.

Browski, did you have many brewskis at the game because I'm interested to know how you thought Jones influenced the game.
Of course I realise it is only his fourth game, but stats of 5 disposals, 1 mark and 17 hit outs when his opponent had 15, 4 and 49 doesn't seem to show much influence. Was hardly sighted during the telecast.
Darcy is a better option when fit imo.

Riewoldt did point out several times the different interpretations ofillegal disposal and holding the ball between the 2 teams on a few occasions early in the game. I thought he actually sounded intelligent most of the day, however he could hardly sound dumber than those alongside him. Dunstall loves to stick the boot into Freo, Hudson is a Bwuce wannabee and Del Santo, ummmm what IS he there for???

Loved the way they got into Walters for staging that push in front of goal for a free, Reiwoldt said " it was a pretty solid bump with no eyes for the ball", was ignored even when the replay showed him to be right. Also called the umps out on a few play on calls from marks and frees.

I thought we got reasonable treatment from the umps (all things considered and given their natural bias) up until the last quarter, but were slaughtered by them from 3/4 time on.

There’s some good wafl form that needs rewarding. I think Harley, grey, strnadica, crowden and even kersten deserve a shot over the next couple of weeks. I’d like dixon to come in once he’s played a few games, like the look of him.

CA, I also thought Jones had a go. Beaten by Bellchambers, but he rucked all day and was still giving at the final siren.

Matera had maybe 2 effective kicks all night, and turned the ball over too often under little pressure. I don't know what happened with Langdon, and Tucker struggled. He seems to have bulked up and I wonder whether this has affected his leap and pace off the mark. Cerra & Banfield did their jobs well.

Essendon kick straight and Freo lose by 10 goals plus.
It’s not all about Freos forwards - it’s coming in far too easily and far too often.

Well when you have one midfielder who gets 30 possessions and the next best is your tagger with 22 it's no wonder it kept going in to their forward line.
It's all about the engine you know and today it wasn't running on all cylinders.
Then to top it off we had Mundy who had a good game as midfielder last week playing more in the forward line this week.

I thought we battled hard but were thrashed through the corridor. Essendon found players on their own almost at will.

Awake
I went to the game today and thought I’d pass on some random thoughts and perceptions. Access to the stadium was easy and I could just walk up and buy a ticket - $25 general access, great seat CHF third tier.
I haven’t been to Etihad for ten years and it is still a good stadium. Food is well priced, can’t comment on the drink, very efficient service.
Oh so cold
Good natured crowd who say “baaaaaalll” a lot
Walters was our only forward and what a brilliant player. Hope he’s happy here
The setup in front of the ball coming off half back is terrible. Has to be a coaching problem, Actually the kick out from a point was generally not flash.
Jones is an absolute keeper but is easily pushed off the ball at this stage. But won a lot.
Wilson, Wilson, Wilson, Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful. Hope he’s happy here.
We have one of the best back six in the competition probably because of their constant practice
Umpiring was ok except in the third quarter when all of a sudden, things got paid – to Essendon - leading to umpire assisted goals. A few dropped heads but I admired the way most fought it out
Won many contests but made easy mistakes.
Giro is not strong enough to withstand the tackles, nor tall enough to free his hands for the handball, nor quick enough to burst through. S&C staff need to get to him next pre season
Was Langdon playing?
Was Cox playing?
Brad Hill gives his opponent two metres too many when defending. Hope he’s happy here.
Brad Hill’s passes to Walters through traffic were sublime.
Cam reminds of when I first started playing. Led like crazy to all the wrong spots and no one kicked it to me. So he needs to be taught a simple plan, stick to it, win a contest or two and things will change.
We had no chance at coming back when the lead was lost as we went wide and with the aforementioned poor structure, there was no way any consistent attack could be mounted. Only Wilson was brave enough or peed off enough to take things on.
Was there an instruction to never use the corridor after half time?
Loved the way Johnno refused to run to the bench after he kicked the goal!
I don’t want to go all Jezza here but there was a lot to like today particularly in the contests.
