Good to see the big fella get another year after injuries have stunted his development early. I like him in the side and his attack on the ball both in the air and on the ground.

I thought these quotes were interesting after RL's declaration The Ape was drafted as a ruckman and always seen as a ruckman:

I'm not sure if Apeness is (or ever will be) good, but I love the way he plays and reckon you can do a lot worse than big blokes who hit the contest the way he does.

One year seems like a good bet by both player and club.

I think forward/ruck is a legitimate role for him though. Tabs didn’t really take to the ruck thing, and Cox isn’t tall enough. It’s his best chance to get a regular game.

He was NEVER drafted as a ruckman. He was drafted as the next available forward when GWS grabbed McCarthy a few picks before.

The fact that he is 200cm, like Daniher or Taberner, means he can play in the ruck but this is just an alternative, secondary position. Sean Darcy is a ruckman.

Most players have to play in more than one position these days but ruck was never his primary role and anyone who says otherwise is a liar.
