Just listened to this podcast from RealFooty and it is interesting to listen to Caro at 36:06 minutes into the cast. She reckons Ross is on him way out.

Yeah like Rory Sloane. I think she is really bad at what she does and is quite an insincere person. She is in this perennial state of reporting that a person should be sacked or on the way out.

Well if you say everyone is on their way out eventually you'll be proven correct.
Please let it be this time.

I am an advocate for honouring contracts whether it is for players or coaches and therefore believe the club should not sack Lyon.

Lyon was very clever in getting a long term contract and our club made a mistake in hindsight by giving him one.

He has proven to be a very good coach but I don’t think he is getting the best out of our squad at the moment. There have been a few good signs here and there but overall we look quite stagnant. Hopefully the situation changes and we come good because a new coach is unlikely no matter how bad we are for the next 2 seasons.

The question isn't as simple as whether Lyon is doing a good or bad job. Because of the contract he's been given, the question for the Board becomes would the unquantifiable positives of installing a new coach outweigh the very quantifiable loss of around $2 million for each year remaining on Lyon's contract? More if we pay the new coach more than $1 million a year or he brings his own assistants and cans the rest.

Given our consolidated profit for the last five years averages less than a million dollars a year, that is a significant hit.

So, would Sumich be a better coach than Lyon? Maybe. Maybe not. Would he be so much better that it's worth putting the club in the red to make the change? That would be a pretty big call. I can probably guess what the WAFC's call would be.

The powers at be took a calculated bet on giving Lyon such a long deal. It didn't work out. Sometimes these things happen, but usually there are consequences. The boys club of Alcock, O'Reilly, Mann, Carter and Bell were all part of the 2016 Board that (presumably) voted to give Lyon that contract. So long as they are around, getting rid of Lyon imputes their faulty decision making, so don't expect to hear much noise from them about Lyon's failings.

Two of those five were member-elected. It would be wise to remember that if anyone ever runs against them. Can you believe those crazies in the MOB movement spent all that time just to ensure people like Bell and Mann got elected?

Your calculations for the club's finances are not accurate.

Freo made a small profit AFTER handing out around 5 million to the WAFC. If we paid out Roly and the question would need to be asked if he's completed his end if the contract, the money would come out of the payout to the WAFC.

WAFC take most of the profit. No profit, no money to WAFC.

I would also tend to think that Roly can be moved on for non performance. Surely those Bored geniuses had KPIs that he needed to meet. Surely nobody would be so incompetent to sign up somebody on a lucrative long term contract if it didn't include specific performance targets.

The policy of bringing home grown players back to WA is hurting us. We are getting average players ( or damaged ).
Put Fyfe on the trade table and get a couple of big hunks of forwards.

That's what I meant by consolidated profit yeti, and why I suggested that the WAFC would have a vested interest in ensuring its dividend. At they are the sole shareholder, what they want counts for a lot.

I'm also not sure how the royalty payment to the WAFC works. It's listed in the annual reports as a licence fee. It's not all after profit is it?

My understanding is the payments to the WAFC is based on the profit raised by the club. The more profit, the bigger the payment.

The slime have the same arrangement and pay more because they have a larger profit.

Its likely referred to as Licence Fee as the WAFC own our licence.

While they may want to protect their income, running club's value down is more costly long term than a single year hit, where they would probably lean on the current state government to chip in a bit more this to make up the deficit. Its a Labor government so they would probably get it as well.

But the payments have always been profit based. I think they get 90 or 95% and our profit is the bit left over

I agree, Yeti, Freo should be able to cancel his contract because he has not delivered what he was contracted to deliver. But it wont happen because the board would have to admit they made a mistake. They will not do that.

I was told a couple of weeks ago that the WAFC take a percentage of Fremantle FC *revenue*. They take a percentage of the Slimes *profit*.

I assume this means Freo would need to negotiate a special deal to reduce the WAFC dividend to allow for unexpected costs impacting the dividend. In the current climate for the WAFC I would think this has no chance.
