with the next generation of dockers players coming through who are obviously not ready yet to compete at the highest level, i can’t help but think what happened to the generation of players aged 23-27 who should be peaking now. Something went horribly wrong as apart from Fyfe, Neale and maybe Walters and Hill, the rest are either lost or not good enough. Is that an issue with player development or recruiting the wrong players ?

Yes. The reason for this is a period from 11-15 that yielded very little in the way of trades or draft talent. So that group you are looking for just doesn't exist. Some good gets were Tabs, Blakely, Neale, Apeness, and Weller which got us Brayshaw.

But it's not a lot to come away with over so many picks.

I wouldn't disagree with what you posted but I'm of the view that player development and man management have been lacking and have a fair bit to do with that dearth of players from that time period.

With better man management we could still have both Simpson and Yarran in our ranks.

You could probably name others who should still be there

The other thing I'd add NPK is most of our current A grade players are still going to be around when these outstanding young players that have been brought to the club in 16 and 17 come good.

If (and it's a big if) we can get a decent run with injuries and Lyon can ease up a little we can start our run in 2019. I have no doubt.

Cox, Cerra,Darcy,Brayshaw,Banfield, Blakely, Ryan, Pearce, Hamling, Louge, Tabs, Apeness......bloody good side when added to the Hill boys, Fyfe and Neale.

We'll get an early pick in a draft loaded with high end talent and I reckon we'll snare a big fish in trade.

The future is really bright. I've been drinking though and am a happy drunk.

Noddy, if someone like Neesham was in charge at the club at the time, Simpson would be a superstar of the game now. Man management does not mean you treat everyone like they are robots who follow the instructions programmed into their computer chip. But under the Rosich/Bond/Lyon admin, we cannot allow individuals to be individualistic, it takes away from the control admin have over them.
