It can certainly be more difficult to pick up movements and structures on tv but you can still see plenty. There are tonnes of down the ground shots and slow play around the backline where you can draw conclusions as to the structures and set ups of differing sides.
As I said, other sides use some of the same tactics, throwing numbers behind the footy, slow switching because the kick up the line is congested and similar moves to what we see at Freo. The difference is, they aren't stuck doing it for the majority of the game and they don't stick as many players back there (or as few forward) as we do.
They often use handball and run to get through it and break lines to players who are positioned relatively forward or on the edge of the opposition zone where as we tend to always have vastly outnumbered forwards who never have the ball kicked to their advantage due to the large amount of pressure and congestion in the backline. Getting the ball out becomes near on impossible and we certainly can't go fast to beat the zone which is the main avenue to goal once the play has congested up in a half of the ground.
I remember seeing more of that same play early in the season with beltings from the likes of Port and Richmond along with ugly games like the OOFTIT's and GWS where play was predominantly in our backline despite the side going pretty well in the clearances.
Wilson has been doing the same great job all season (he was still breaking lines and kicking long on the weekend, we just didn't have anyone forward so the ball came straight back), S Hill has only started to pick up from injury the past week or two so is on the improve and Ryan has been quiet the past fortnight in what seems to be a more defensive role change (since when does he spoil easily markable balls?).
