"the State Government said it was confident it would open for the public before the Fremantle Dockers game at Perth Stadium on July 15."

If the bridge is to get it's first real stress test with thousands of tonnes of people on it, I would prefer they were Eagles supporters.

I know the State Government is going to save a bit of money by not adding the cladding, but does anyone else reckon it looks a little average without it?

Yes Morgan, you are spot-on. It has been turned into a camel (i.e. a horse designed by a committee) on the basis of $200K per year, or approximately 1/150th of the cost of the construction blow-out that has made it, from what I can ascertain, the most expensive (in nominal terms) bridge in this state.

Agree morgan, looks cheap.

Its gone from dreamtime serpent to toppled tower cranes.

It doesn't look as pretty as the renderings of the original design but the big benefit of this one is that you can walk across it.

The 2 ends don't even meet. Gee, the surveyors must have hit the turps hard to stuff that up.

"Freo Rollercoaster" how apt. When we finally reach the giddy heights of success, it's a quick and instant plummet back to earth.

Black 'n white colour scheme is just wrong. It needs to be purple.

Just went down Polly's freeway - the bridge superstructure was all lit up in purple. It looked superb.

Umm... Anyone know exactly how they are going to get the reported 14,000 people to the East Perth end of this bridge on game day? That's roughly a quarter of Optus's capacity around the back of Gloucester Park??? Apart from maybe 1,000 from around East Perth, where are the other 13,000 coming from?

I think the ideas are that a lot of people will find parking or get dropped off in the city and walk the rest of the way (like they do at the cricket); and that they will move people by bus to and from the Elizabeth Quay station, which probably halves the journey time for the bus and clears some bus traffic from the causeway.

I reckon it's hard to see a need for it because Transperth have done such a good job covering for the lack of bridge. But I get the impression it's unsustainable to keep running the current number of busses every week for ever.
