TOPIC: Draft Spaces

Kirk and his family had enough of living in WA and being away from family and friends, he won't be coaching outside of Sydney/Melbourne again.

JLo is the bloke to guide us into the next era.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

There are three genuine KPP (and all great full forwards) superstars in this draft - Lukosios and the King brothers. We MUST trade up the draft order with our first pick to get one. Any of those three would allow Tabs to play true CHF and give Cam Mac the freedom to be third tall, and take pressure of Apeness et al as ruck/forwards. But, do I really need to explain why Fremantle needs a star key forward?
So who have we got worth trading our first pick (likely 4-10) to Brisbane, Carlton to move us up?
I’d love it to be Sheridan, but more likely is someone like nyhuis. This trade won’t come cheap.

Secondly, we need to trade some of the older blokes for cheap, low, “nothing picks” so that we can use the points for our acedemy players.
There’s every chance our academy kid (I forget his name ) will pop up around the second round and if we have the points, then we get a second round player without a second round pick.
Then we take a punt on one more player late in the draft, and hope to draft well in the rookie draft. Upgrading some of our current rookies (like banfield) will help top up the list from some of the older players traded out for acedemy points.
If this isn’t EXACTLY what Freo are planning then they deserve every criticism.

After trading away our second, third and fourth round picks last year, we have committed ourselves to continue mortgaging our future for instant gratification, a bit like a hire purchase scheme. Pretty sure there are rules about keeping a pick in the first two rounds but given the coaches and boards need for something shiny and new t distract us from the failure that is our rebuild, I fully expect us to trade away our future 1st, 3rd and 4th rounds pick to get back into this “super draft”

Bizkit , you are on the money as JLo could be an excellent choice as our next snr coach (hopefully next year) given he now has experience at two other successfull afl clubs and would fit the profile to develop our young players (and hopefully would have a game plan that involved having a forward line that could kick goals)

I can tell you who will coach Fremantle for the next six years - Ross Lyon.

Sox, packaging up Sheridan and Nyhuis would probably move us from pick 100 to pick 99. Unfortunately the best way for Fremantle to move up the draft ladder is to play like we did on the weekend, only a bit more regularly, something not outside the realms of possibility.
I wouldn’t be rushing anyone back that’s for sure.

Hypen,

At the risk of sending Jezza into apoplexy, I'm betting that Roly won't be coach next year. Not at Freo anyway.

The Fremantle Dockers will always be there but the R Lyons fans I wonder who you will support once he's gone

Ok, no one has stated the obvious - so I will: Bradley for Sicily, straight swap. They get what they need, we get a great marking/big kicking knobber. I would hate to lose Stephen's brother, but I reckon he's had his fill of RoLy ball.

I think the Purple Kit has nailed it, we will trade away our future next years picks to try and get a higher pick this year.

What a shame we never got another seasons look at Logue. He is the missing link, he could be great he could be useless, we just dont know yet. Also the injury to Tabs has been crucial. If he had improved as his early form suggested he might have this year, it would help guide our upcoming draft. Again with Cox and McCarthy, I wish we could know they were being properly coached, at the moment we dont know if they are crabs or more likely, good young forwards who just need a forwards coach that knows what hes doing and a proper game style.

Wouldnt fancy being a recruiter at Freo, we actually have no idea what sort of player we actually need. It appears we need a forward but Im suspecting we actually need a forwards coach.

The only problem with Summa as head coach is that the WA media will run a hate campaign on him that will make the Farmer/Ballantyne campaign look like kindergarten stuff.
