TOPIC: JONES

So if Jones is no good, you’d want strndicia or meek..? Surely Jones is a better bet at the moment - from an experience point of view at least..?

I thought Jones showed enough in the couple of games he was slung in for, to be ‘in the mix’

I’m flabbergasred Sheriden’s in, but theres not many to replace him at the moment, I guess. I guess its either Sheriden or Pearce comes back in ...

Nah, OGS, Lyon is all about rugby tactics, he don't want zones in footy, he wants an offside rule.

And yes, I would play Jones. He adds balance to the side, gives us room to throw Cox back if we are too short down back or lose a key defender, which is more than possible, and we don't need 17 midfielders on the ground at the same time so Lyon would not even notice if Sheridan and/or Matera was left home to play for Peel. If Ballantyne is not injured and Matera is getting a game ahead of him, that's it. I will by the 3 one-way tickets to Damascus myself.

Actually I think d Pearce in Darwin would be better than T-bone.

Scott Jones definitely not aFL standard. Slow, poor skills, can't mark, can't play forward, not great ruck skills. A bit like Sandi only Sandi got fit and learnt to use his frame in the ruck. Sandi is a servant of the club and has been a soldier but he's actually pretty ****...

I suppose judging the merit of a footballer depends on how you measure them. You can look at the fact that they're really good at doing their job or you can use whatever measure you've cooked up.

I’m curious to know how jones went against Zac Clarke last night, essentially we replaced Clarke with Jones, was it a step forward or backward?

Didn't see the game but then again who did?
Jones most hit outs but meaningless stat if they were not to advantage (have to admit winning a hit out is not his weakness it is his marking and last night that was one)
Zac in the best players for Subi, can only imagine he moved around the ground a lot better
On raw stats Starnadica was better all round performance with 5 marks and a goal, he shows promise and is a natural good mark but still young, is a keeper Maybe ready to play in the seniors next year with another preseason under his belt

yes Shane it does depend on how you measure them...good ruckman these days are typically measured by; at least halfing the ruck contest, taps to advantage, possies, contested marks and an ability to push forward and be a threat. Sandi ticks one or two...Jones ticks none.

211 would have pushed forward a whole lot more IF we had a style of play that encouraged "pushing forward".

Dont be telling us Sandi's not a good ruckman. I wont have it!
Deficiencies -'yes' , but geez, hes got some great points.
And a couple of "All-Australians" are a pretty good measure , methinks.

And as for Jones, hes allowed some time to develop - like everyone else. He'd certainly not be the worst we have trotted out there over the journey...

And comparing Jones to Hendrix aint fair either..! Hendrix has the experiencw of playing near on 100 afl games.
And those 100 games showed he had some deficiencies....and that is why he aint playing anymore apart from the fact he couldn't get himself on the park. ...!
Having said that, Hendrix has better carreer stats than that Nic Nat Nostat clown....and for that he should be very proud...

Yeah, Cletus, Jones is expected to front up and show the attributes of a 150 AFL games veteran. What should he do? Show some signs that he is worth keeping on the list. Hope for a chance to work in tandem with Sandi or Darcy, so he can take on a ruckman of his experience, rather than the best of what's going round in AFL at the moment. Hope for a coaching box that plays players in position, not a running scrum from 1 end of the ground to the other and back again.

Strnadica has done the best overall job of playing as a ruckman/forward of all those young guys but he never looks like getting a run. Bet they delist him at the end of the season.
