I like Kersten in the backline, he is composed and is a wonderful kick of the ball. McCarthy is a problem; a gifted player without football nous and he lacks resilience. I trust he has access to the sort of guidance a kid like him needs.
Matera is the only truly poor choice in terms of what we spent. He is not a damaging small forward, I really don't know what he is to be honest.
Our small forward stocks are more worrying than our tall forward stocks. We need to get back into this draft somehow, I don't know how we do it, maybe they need to look at a list that has: Strnadica, Taberner, Apeness, Cox, MacCarthy, Kersten, Dixon, Logue, A Pearce and Hamling and say "right how many of them and who do we actually need and who gives us some currency". I reckon Taberner could get traded at years end. You might get an early 3 rd rounder for him.
The list still has some big holes and we are rebuilding. A lot of good work has been done in the past two years but to have these gaping holes and essentially have one pick in the draft is a worry. We need two small forwards and a big bodied mid to cover for Mundy when the time comes.
