Assuming these two sit behind Sandi, Cox and Tabs in the pecking order, if two or three of them who do you play if all five are available. Sandi is a given but then what?

Eventually
The Ape will give you more forward presence and pressure and his ruck work will improve. Darcy will need to be kept interested until Sandi retires hopefully after one more season.

I think Darcy gives more around the ground, and as much if not more up forward. Don't forget in his games for us, so far in his career, he has played as the only ruckman, and has not been given much opportunity to show his wares up forward. Apeness is more of a forward who can pinch hit in the ruck, a-la Taberner.

It's Darcy v Sandilands.

Apeness v Taberner.

In 2020 it’s Darcy, Apeness, Cox and Taberner.

I think you need to play three out of Sandi, Darcy, Tabs, Apeness and Cox. Any more than that and we're going to be pretty slow. Any fewer and we don't have enough targets.

At this stage Sandi, Tabs and Cox is probably our best best for scoring goals, though not so great for back-up ruck work.

I'm not sure Darcy can ruck all day, so if you're bringing him in for Sandi then you might be tempted to replace Cox or Tabs with Apeness.

While we don't really have any A-Grade quality with our tall forwards, at least we're getting to the stage where we have some genuine options.

Darcy rucked solo with Tabs or Johnno as backup last season, and we reckoned he should have won the rising star in a canter. I don't think the AwFL ruck stocks are any stronger this year.

Darcy only plays if Sandi doesn't. He had a fantastic year in 2017 but isn't a key position forward (certainly not yet anyway) and doesn't clunk marks like an Apeness, Cox or Taberner.

I would also play Apeness ahead of Tabs with his back up ruckwork (and being a target around the ground for kick ins etc) far more valuable for mine. He also is starting to clunk marks up forward which will only improve as he gets more accustomed to playing after long periods out of the game and even when he doesn't, he brings the ball to ground well rather than let the opposition outmark him.

I'm not opposed to all three of Apeness, Tabs and Cox up forward but it might mean changes to RL's gameplan and he's never been a fan of that.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Do we have an abundance of average tall forwards on our list now?

And should we be looking at trading one off for an average tall midfielder?

What you do is you collect a set and then you can trade them in for one good one. That's our list management model.

Not so long ago we were debating whether Apeness was a R/F or F/R. When drafted most thought he was going to be Pav’s replacement. A bloke called Tom Boyd became a premiership player, Apeness was his understudy in the U18s. I saw him ruck against Grundy a couple of weeks ago and he more than held his own. I see Apeness more of a R/F and I still stand by that view. So perhaps he’s Sandi’s replacement.

So what you're saying is that he's good but he's no Tom Boyd.
