TOPIC: Harley this weekend

They’ve sent him (and others) for scans plenty of times, and haven’t sent him this time. It’s almost as if there’s some sort of injury threshold point at which team Doctors think it will garner useful information.

Out of curiosity, if you were a Doctor and there was a one percent chance of finding an undiagnosed tear, and you knew the public health wait time for an MRI was a few months, how much of a scumbag would you feel sending him anyway?

If I was a player with my future on the balance I would like to know if I was going to recover or if it's over . I want to know where I am at ! ( and if scans would help so be it )
If there is still a chance of having some input to help Freo toward its goals or not . I also think that the Freo supporters have a right to know what is happening with their players .
We don't mind waiting to find out the truth about our players !

In general, I wonder how do you work out whether to take the risk on an injury prone player. If they are just a run-of-the-mill type, then you probably don't bother. But if they are a potential match winner, then maybe you do. But how do you make that decision?

One would think they should take all the necessary steps to find out how to fix problems as they arise .
Doing nothing might be the answer .

The way Fremantle is going there is probably no point in putting him into the team when he isn't 100% , might as well keep him fit without pushing to hard .
Then next year if - or when we start to win some games bring him in .

Or wait until we start winning some games.....

That means we shouldn't expect to see him until 2020, our premiership year.

I think the biggest mistake made by the club was recruiting him. Who thought it was bad idea at the time? Certainly not me, I was rapt we were able to get him.
I wonder whether or not we were given a full and honest medical report on his condition at that time? We may also have been salivating at the time and undercooked due diligence.
Or it could just be one of those things. I just wish they would stop happening to our top picks.

Harley and the Hill brothers... man that sounds nice to have on your list and we're all itching to see their chemistry gel on the field.

We knew what we were getting. Even went so far as to claim that our elite medical team would be able to do a much better job than their mob. Top men at work again.

Corp, I’d like to see our medico’s qualifications. RoLy keeps referring to them as Cobblers and, based on their inability to get players back onto the field, I now think he’s being literal. Some of the fancy footwear that is being worn by our players further fuels my suspicions. Maybe we’re using cobblers with first aid certs as a cost saving measure?

Come on Morgan, normally your contrary views are well thought out and shine a light on the other side of the coin, providing a more balanced view of a situation where a lot of our emotions and bias can get in the way.

Suggesting our doctors are worried about feeling like scumbags for sending someone who thinks they've injured themselves (and have repeatedly endured that same injury) for scans instead of a public patient is just wrong.

Seeking medical treatment because you think you need it is a necessity for everyone and while Harley is lucky to have specialists on hand, that doesn't mean he is costing others an opportunity at receiving the same treatment and it should never be a consideration when treating someone.

If Harley thought he had an issue with his calf, he should seek the appropriate treatment and that includes getting a scan to find out what the problem is.

I completely agree; if they thought he needed a scan they would send him. If Harley thought he needed a scan they’d probably send him as well. In fact, if they weren’t 99.9% sure he didn’t need a scan I’m sure they would send him.

Which suggests they are very, very confident he doesn’t need a scan.

The point people seem to be making is that they should send him for a scan even when they don’t see any need for a scan.

I’m not in the medical imaging business so I don’t know how MRI machines are booked. My preference would probably be that these valuable and highly sought-after machines be used by people when the think they might be useful in some way.

Not to centuple check that tightness was just tightness.

If they're using the public system it might explain the delay in getting back on the park. Brad Hill is still on the elective surgery waiting list.

If Harley thought he was tight enough not to play any further part in the game last week and is again missing this week, his injury deserves a scan to see what is wrong with him.

Is he able to train this week?
How hard can he push it?
Can he train/play next week?
Have they been pushing his calf too hard?
Is he a reliable source for how his calf is traveling or could this problem be in the patients mind given his prior history?

These are all important questions and more to Harley and the club that could be aided by a scan.

Not giving him a scan is a mistake for mine and bordering on negligent.
