rogerrocks why would you expect a fair go from the media now? The negativity of reporting on the Dockers is endemic in the media. Always has been. The word 'fair' is not in the lexicon of many reporters when analysing Docker matters.

Frankly, this is laughable and embarrassing. Is this the best we could do? Referring to a 5 year old case during which time the entire tribunal process, its interpretations and its penalties have been revised and modified multiple times is nuts. We know that previous outcomes from last year are obsolete, let alone from 5 years ago. Top men indeed!

I used to get pretty annoyed at the umpires as junior. It probably comes as no surprise to those on here that I was a bit lippy when they made a bad decision. One of my junior coaches – smart bloke - pulled me aside and said that sometimes how things are and how they look to others are different, so it’s impossible for umpires to get every call right. It always stuck with me.

As I moved on in my life that’s held true in many different aspects of life. True consistency by humans in evaluating complex situations (either by a single person over time or between evaluators) is an admirable aim, but basically impossible. If you aren’t happy until the world at large evaluates that world in a way perfectly consistent with you, then you are in for a life of needless frustration.

As for Allen, fair enough he come out in support of Fyfe, but the Fyfe hit and the Mitchell hit have very little in common. One was a cheeky clip on the way through that caused Goldstein to slightly deviate from his running path (worth a fine), the other was a collision with the forearm-ish area to the head at pace that knocked Greenwood from the vertical position to lying on the ground where he laid for a bit while he caught bearings. You can argue Greenwood kept playing, but look at how hard Greenwood’s head snaps back on the hit. It’s not nothing. Where Allan sees inconsistency, I see two completely different acts and consequences. That’s life.

Fyfe perhaps could have got away with a fine, but it seems like he just snuck over for a week. It’s a binary outcome with a lot of grey area, and Fyfe was a little unlucky. In the pantheon of injustices, this one doesn’t even warrant a footnote.
