13 of the 14 pages on this topic seem to agree that the biggest problem with the decision is the inconsistency shown by the MRP. If 13 out of 14 media pundits were to highlight the inconsistency, then we might see some action on that inconsistency. But the media wont, because the AwFL pays their wages (indirectly through media rights). Just like umpiring, the media will toe the company line. Where is the indignation from the commentary team who said it should at worst be a fine?
As for red and yellow card systems, don't even think about adding them to the mix. Super 18 Rugby has seen a couple of incidents this year of players using an elbow to the head in plain view of the ref, and the Video Match Official (who is allowed to contact the ref and have video evidence used to penalise a player for foul play) and yet no action taken, while other players are sent off for a shove, or a bump off the ball. As for the MRP in this system, the player who concussed an opponent with an elbow, off the ball, not in play, normally a 6 - 8 week offence, got off with 2 weeks so he would be available for a test match next week. So footy is not the only sport where money takes precedence over justice.
