Thats a little unfair Morgan. (but not by much)

He's not really a defender but then again, he hasn't been doing it long. He's spent all his AFL career as a forward. He's similar to McCarthy but as good although based on McCarthy's last few games thats debatable.

For me, he just goes missing in games and then pops up and does a couple of good things. I think he needs to be working more with his defensive coach to try and stay in the game a bit more but if he hasn't got that by now, he may never get it.

FFS Kersten is the one we pick to give a pineapple too. Someone said, he pops up to do a couple of good things, wish McCarthy could do that. Really struggled after Pearce went off. Well the reason McCarthy can’t touch the bloody footy is, he needs another forward to support him. Did anybody notice how much time the ball spent in their fifty.
What about the dropped marks by Cox. How about Apeness that couldn’t cover 100m in 3hrs he is that slow. How did Duman go. Plenty of excuses for some and others thrown under the bus.
Game went pretty much to script, you want the kids you got them. Sit back and enjoy. It’s going to be hard work for those left out there to support them.

I'm with Dockerman By The Sea.

Kersten didn't succeed as a backman in our mismatch against Collingwood, but today was not a day to measure that performance. Kerstan isn't a key backman, nor a key forward. To expect either is unreasonable. I reckon he could be a very good half-back flanker, but Kersten is not the player you build your forward line or defence around. He is a solid AFL player but he isn't the saviour of the Fremantle Football Club.

God, please send Freo a saviour.

The Shane Kersten experiment down back is one the Dockers should keep investing time in.

After playing as a key forward in his first 58 AFL games, Kersten showed he’s no one-trick pony with a solid performance in defence.

He finished with nine marks, 18 disposals and three rebound-50s.

His new role might be exactly what he needs to hold his spot in the Fremantle side after being previously overlooked in favour of Cam McCarthy and Matt Taberner up forward.

Fellow inclusion Tom Sheridan also made the most of his first opportunity at AFL level since round three.

It would have been a real bonus for Freo to see Kersten take 9 marks and have 18 disposals with 3 or more goals playing down forward. Sheridan kicked a goal, but (like a few others) had the quick 2 meter handpass to whoever down pat. Not really effective with the footy besides his 1 goal.

Does anyone have stats on how many of those 9 marks were part of our trademark slow switching?
There was at least a couple of occasions where we chipped two 20m passes to get half way across a switch when one 40m kick would have been fine
