We’re either too slow or not strong enough. We seemed to put an arm out to check the player a lot without completing the tackle. Was that a technique problem? The other thing I noticed was the amount of time players like walters and fyfe did the superman thing where they’re chasing a player and then just do the dive at them, 90% seemed to be ineffective.
I suppose tackle bags don’t move, maybe we need to train it on real people.

FOS, I don't think it's about being too slow or strong enough. It's more an attitudinal issue. For example, Brayshaw is easily our best tackler and he is not that quick, and still only 18. But he commits himself fully to the tackle and usually gives a second effort if necessary. Some of our players are not committed and are too busy trying to corral their opponent, or they stick out a hand to make it look like they're making an effort. McCarthy and Kersten are good at that, and they're not alone.

They aren't taught to attack the player with the ball, they're taught to zone off and guard space. The aim is to corral and force a pressured kick to someone else guarding space but that doesn't work against most good sides who can deal with pressure and have good foot skills (like the Hawks back when we were good and could never beat them).

That's why we rarely get tackle stats unless you're an inside mid in a rolling maul in the middle.

Keeping the ball in our forward line seems to be a huge problem. Pressure and tackles on opposition backmen should be coached into the team. It seems we don’t have too many tackles in the forward 50. Where did our manic pressure go?

I am not sure we apply manic pressure, as Biz has said we seem to infer pressure with numbers and are corralling. Teams now know we do this, if they hold onto the ball, an option will become available and they escape the trap.
