In 2016 the Bulldogs finished 7th in the home and away season and thought: ‘you know what, if we hit a purple patch we could win a flag’. And they did.

And you lot reckon in 2015 while sitting on top of the ladder for most of the year Ross should have gone: ‘I don’t like the looks of this, I should get more games into some young blokes.’

And who would those young bloke have been exactly? Max Duffy? Brady Gray? Tom Vandeleur? It’s not like we had blue-chippers on the list twiddling their thumbs.

It doesn’t even qualify as revisionist history. It’s fantasy land stuff.

In 2015, we debuted Weller in R18, Langdon, Grey, Ballard, Hughes and Blakely - in R23. That was Lyon tanking to the tune of 69 points, to refresh old legs for finals.

4 of those are considered as part our 22 in 2018. Why the hell did he wait so long?

Alex Pearce was another who debuted I believe in R23. Apart from the fact that it's always better for young players to debut in a winning team (like that kid last week who kicked a few goals for the Pies) it can also galvanise older players. Blakely, A Pearce, Weller and Langdon might have done just that if given a run. We will never know.

In 2015 we looked tired, we needed a change. It wasn't about getting games into young players, it was about freshening up the team. After round nine we only had one win over a top 8 team. We lost 3 of the last 4. Not inspiring stuff heading into the finals.

Langdon is still hitting up Hypen for a weight gain diet in 2018 and you're wondering why he didn't play more three years ago? Blakely can barely run out a game now. Weller is no longer with us. All three are developing just fine.

It's a very long bow to suggest our fortunes would be different had we put more games into Grey, Ballard and Hughes.

It's the same argument for not playing them. But we know exactly where we're at not doing so.

Maybe it wouldn't be different, but we'd have a hell of a better idea of whether to keep some of them or not.
