TOPIC: Forward Hope

I like it. Kersten is doing great in the backline. HB playing more midfield minutes. Now Apeness gets to find out if he’s really a ruckman or a waste of a draft pick.

He's not doing well in the backline and we actually quite badly need him to become a better forward.

McDonald was a very good back and is now playing forward. We can’t kick goals why not try and make some forwards?

Not sure if you liking it is a great indication Jezza. If Lyon suggested Fyfe would be better value at full back you'd like that.

Short memory by some. I’ll throw a name up. Tarrant. Yes it’s going back a few years. Don’t know about the commentary back then, but wouldn’t surprise if it was all positive. Should Kersten not play back on the weekend, it matters not. I hope he does and has a blinder. I’m more pumped about our ruckman in Apeness finally playing where he was drafted to play. With 9 players under 25 games running out on Sunday, they couldn’t win could they?

Apeness leading the ruck, finally.

Pumped. Totally. Drafted as a ruck.

These aren't the droids I'm looking for, move along........

Scott Jones was selected so i'm hopeful he is leading the ruck with Apeness mostly forward, as he was drafted to do.

Tarrant was good in defence because he was lead to the ball and had the pace and height to keep up with any key forward and spoil. Kersten doesn't have those attributes and from what I've seen of him at Peel (albeit 1 game), he is not a defender or anything like Tarrant. He is more in line with a Jack Anthony.

Maybe this is like Jezza's calls of Hogan being no good and overrated, having a team of midfielders instead of picking up talls being the way we should structure up as the team that wins the midfield battle wins the game or how Brayshaw was a shoe in for the rising star this year.
Nathan: When did you get balls?
Simon: I've always had balls you've just never seen them.
Nathan: That's the gayest thing I've ever heard.

Admittedly after 6 years and some horrible personal circumstances, the Hoges has arrived. I’m still thinking he’ll be Freo bound. Any news, anyone.

Tarrant has been discussed, Jezza, but just because Harvey was able to turn him into a good defender doesn't mean it will work in every instance.

As has already been mentioned, Roly tried turning Barlow into a half forward and we lost a good inside mid.

Kersten isn't working as a defender but we need him as a forward.

Apeness was drafted a tall forward and for all your Roly rahrah, 4 games at Peel as a backup ruck doesn't mean he will replace Sandi. Apeness is needed forward and if he doesn't turn out to be a great ruckman, he wouldn't be a wasted draft pick as you suggested, he will turn into another mismanaged player.

We need tall forwards. We don't need to be converting tall forwards into other things.

Oh, and Harvey succeeded with Tarrant. I haven't seen Roly succeed with changing any player yet but he's wasted a few.

Look a cherry!

That must be one of the few successes Harvey had.

Walters seems to have done alright under Lyon when he was adrift.

So, Noddy, you don't give any credit to Swan Districts for reducing Walters skinfolds but credit Lyon for sending him there?

I must say sending players off for others to deal with worked a treat with Anthony and Simpson.

Although I agree to trying a player elsewhere after failing but geez give them a decent chance to prove themselves in rightful positions first!!!

Walters did the hard work himself. He wasn't given any new role when he came back, and moved to the midfield as a result of the hard work he put in for 2 or 3 seasons.

As for Tarrant, I reckon Harvey sent him to the backline for a couple of games to get his confidence up by allowing him freedom to attack the footy 1 on 1 with an opponent he only had to half the contest with. It worked for Harvey a couple of times in his career, and I think Tarrant was left there because he actually took to the role with relish.

Kersten is not the type who will make a permanent defender anyway, but a game or 2 in defense just might get him working harder at the footy going forward. The only problem with that is we have a defensive structure that no-one in his right mind would chang................ Yes I can see the problem. Hopefully though Lyon used the couple of games at Peel as the spark for Kersten.

Tarrant went back because he had one of the worst cases of the yips in front of goals that you've ever seen. He was still leading and marking fine, but you wouldn't have backed him in from 10 m out dead in front.
